Sangam food court noodle restaurant open weekends: Sangam Hoegwan

In short

Sangam Hoegwan is a Korean noodle restaurant in the basement food court of Sangam IT Tower in Mapo, Seoul, and the only stall in that food court open on weekends. Visiting with kids, the writer ordered five dishes to share — pumpkin kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup), perilla oil milmyeon, mom's-recipe kimchi bibim guksu, crispy kimchi pancake and wang mandu (big dumplings) — and every meal dish came with a free extra-large portion. The flavors at Sangam Hoegwan are mild rather than spicy, which makes it an easy weekend lunch with children.

Pumpkin kongguksu and side dishes spread at Sangam Hoegwan

A little while ago I went to Sangam Hoegwan with the kids — this Sangam lunch spot is famous for its hearty, delicious noodle dishes! Thanks to their generous, well-made menu, the whole family walked away satisfied. Let me share the detailed review and info from our visit.

Where is Sangam Hoegwan, and when is it open?

Sangam Hoegwan is in the basement 1 food court of Sangam IT Tower at 434 World Cup buk-ro, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Hours are 10:00–20:00, opening from 11:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, with a weekday break time from 15:00–17:00. The building's parking lot offers 2 hours of registered use, takeout is available, there's free Wi-Fi, and the restrooms are separated by gender.

Sangam Hoegwan is on the basement level of the Sangam-dong food court, so it was easy to find.

Of all the stalls in the food court, Sangam Hoegwan was the only one open on weekends. A kiosk was set up near the kitchen for ordering.

Even during the busy lunchtime rush, it was quick and easy to pick a menu item at the kiosk.

The self-service bar had neatly arranged tableware, scissors, sugar and salt, so you can help yourself whenever you need something. What really stands out here is that the base portions are already generous, and the upsize is free. It's hard to imagine a better setup for big eaters or growing kids.

The five dishes shared with the kids

At Sangam Hoegwan we ordered a wide spread to share with the kids: pumpkin kongguksu, perilla oil milmyeon, mom's-recipe kimchi bibim guksu, crispy kimchi pancake and wang mandu.

Pumpkin kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup)

Pumpkin kongguksu (chilled soybean noodle soup). The rich, golden pumpkin-soybean broth was packed with springy noodles — isn't the color gorgeous?

With the nutty flavor and sweetness combined, I think even kids trying kongguksu for the first time could enjoy it without hesitation. The pumpkin's natural sweetness made it good to eat even without adding extra salt or sugar.

Perilla oil milmyeon (wheat noodles)

Perilla oil milmyeon (wheat noodles) — the nutty aroma of perilla oil hits your nose first. Topped generously with seaweed flakes and sesame seeds, this was truly the essence of nuttiness. Mild and not spicy at all, it suited the kids' palates perfectly.

Mom's-recipe kimchi bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) — a specialty dish loaded with crunchy cucumber, kimchi and boiled egg in a spicy-sweet-and-tangy sauce.

The noodles were also chewy and paired well with the deep flavor of the sauce.

Crispy kimchi pancake

Crispy kimchi pancake — golden-brown and cooked to a real crunch. It was genuinely crispy, and my kid ate it right up. It also went nicely alongside the noodle dishes.

Wang mandu (big dumplings)

Wang mandu (big dumplings) had a rich, juicy filling, and my youngest really dug in. It's another dish that pairs well with noodles. After all that food, everyone left with a full, satisfied belly.

What stands out about Sangam Hoegwan?

They serve deep, rich-flavored noodle dishes and sides, and with the free upsizing on every meal item, the value for money is excellent.
