Sangam IT Tower restaurant for pumpkin kongguksu: Sangam Hoegwan

In short

Sangam Hoegwan is a Korean restaurant specialising in kongguksu (cold soy milk noodles), in the basement food court of Sangam IT Tower in Mapo, Seoul. The writer ordered the pumpkin kongguksu dumpling set, the perilla oil mil-myeon dumpling set and a kimchijeon (kimchi pancake), and the pumpkin soy broth was sweet without any added sugar, so even her husband, who normally cannot eat kongguksu, took over her bowl. If you like a thick, nutty broth, the pumpkin kongguksu at Sangam Hoegwan is the one to order.

Every summer without fail, there's one soul food I crave — kongguksu (cold soy milk noodle soup), with its rich, milky broth!! My picky palate is hard to satisfy, but this time I found a real hidden gem in Sangam-dong!!! Here's my honest review as a certified kongguksu lover~~

Where Sangam Hoegwan is and where to park

Sangam Hoegwan is inside Sangam IT Tower, so diners get free parking! Parking space is unusually generous for Sangam-dong, so I could visit without any parking stress!

Being able to park with ease even on a weekend is a real joy..!!

Sangam Hoegwan, famous for kongguksu, is on the first basement floor food court, so just take the elevator inside the building.

This is the entrance leading into Sangam Hoegwan! It's beloved by Sangam-dong office workers and foodies alike!!

Being in a food court, the indoor seating is plentiful and spacious, so I wasn't worried about turnover for groups or peak-time office crowds!!

Walking further in, I arrived at Sangam Hoegwan, open even on weekends!!

Sangam Hoegwan has held down the same spot since 2019, making it a proven, tried-and-true favorite among Sangam-dong office workers!!

Kiosk ordering, plus self-serve aprons and tableware

Ordering at Sangam Hoegwan is simple through the kiosk set up in front of the restaurant! Even during the weekday lunch rush with office workers packing the place, the kiosk let me order quickly, making wait times and traffic flow much more efficient~

There were plenty of clean disposable aprons off to one side, so I could eat comfortably even though I'd worn white clothes!!haha

What's on the menu at Sangam Hoegwan

From the signature ultra-nutty kongguksu to bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles) and even a special pumpkin kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) — perfect for chillier weather or a craving for something different! Everything looked so good it was hard to choose! The special pumpkin kongguksu caught my eye! And the pumpkin kalguksu already has plenty of fame from reviews!

And kimchijeon (kimchi pancake) and dumplings that go great alongside!!!

After much deliberation! I ordered perilla oil mil-myeon, pumpkin kongguksu, and kimchijeon!! There was also a version that came with a dumpling set, so out of curiosity I ordered that too haha

The restaurant is currently running a Naver receipt review event too — participate and they give you a special ube soy milk drink, so don't miss it!! Getting to try Sangam Hoegwan's ube soy milk felt like a truly special event haha

Pumpkin kongguksu dumpling set: sweet without sugar

I'm a kongguksu lover, but this was my first time trying pumpkin kongguksu! First off, the sweet pumpkin aroma, the nutty soybean scent, and the visuals all passed with flying colors! The dumpling set comes with 2 dumplings~

It's thick like a purée, and even without added sugar it's full of sweet, nutty flavor!

You can add sugar or salt to taste~ but it's sweet even without haha

With thin noodles plus the nuttiness of Gangwon-do soybeans and the sweetness of pumpkin added in, it's truly a wow moment!! How much so? My husband, who can't normally eat kongguksu, kept saying it was so good and stealing bites from my bowl lol. If someone who can't eat kongguksu is eating it happily, you know exactly how good it is, right?!

The broth was so delicious I kept eating and eating ㅠㅠ

Kimchijeon (kimchi pancake) with squid

The kimchijeon showed up too!!!! I expected an ordinary kimchi pancake, but wow, the visuals were amazing..haha Crispy on the outside! Moist inside~

Thanks to the spicy kick of the kimchijeon, my chopsticks never stopped moving haha Crispy on the outside! Exactly the kind of kimchijeon I love ㅠㅠㅠㅠ Crispy and moist together — absolutely the best..!!

There's squid in it too, making the kimchijeon even more delicious!!

How big are the dumplings in the set?

The dumplings that came with the set! They were bigger than expected, which was very satisfying!

The moment you bite in, the thin skin gives way to meat packed all the way through, bursting with juicy, savory flavor in every bite!!

Pairing the meat-filled dumplings with the rich pumpkin kongguksu broth was the perfect combo — nothing could beat it!!

Perilla oil mil-myeon dumpling set

Honestly, the moment I saw the menu photo, I couldn't not order it...haha

This dumpling set also came with big dumplings, generously filled!

Who will enjoy Sangam Hoegwan most?

If you usually love kongguksu! And if, like me, you're serious about a rich, nutty broth, I hope you visit at least once!! From the ample parking to the comfortable food court seating, plus the healthy, naturally sweet pumpkin kongguksu and the addictive kimchijeon, it's all covered. I confidently recommend Sangam Hoegwan for your next lunch or weekend meetup!!
