Dongtan Chinese restaurant self-serve hair ties and aprons: Bultina

Today I was wondering what to have for dinner when the cockle jjamppong I ate two months ago suddenly popped into my head. So I went back again. Here's my visit record for Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch.

Where is Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch, and where do you park?

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong is at Dongtan Namgwangjang. Daeun public parking lot offers 1 hour 30 minutes free parking.

Opening hours and the coffee vending machine at the entrance

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch opens at 10:40, closes at 21:00, with last order at 20:20. That's a good window for both lunch and dinner. Keep the hours in mind.

There's a vending machine coffee at the shop entrance. Given the menu, you'll probably crave one after finishing your jjamppong. Don't forget to grab one.

Seating at Bultina, and how busy it was at 5pm on a Saturday

There was plenty of seating on both sides from the entrance — 2-seat tables, 4-seat tables, and reserved seats. Baby chairs are also available.

We went around 5pm on a Saturday, just before dinner rush, so there were still some seats open. But once the food started coming out and time passed, all these seats filled up fast.

Ordering cockle jjamppong at spice level 1

Since we came with our child, we sat at a sofa table and checked the menu posted on the wall. Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong lets you adjust the spice level, so keep that in mind when ordering. Last time we had level 1 and it was truly a deliciously spicy flavor. So we ordered level 1 again this time.

Hair ties and black aprons at the self-serve corner

After ordering, we grabbed any extra tableware we needed from the self-serve corner set up in one part of the restaurant. Onion and pickled radish refills are also available there.

And two thoughtful touches here! Since it's jjamppong, the broth means hair can get in the way for women... and they had hair ties on hand. Just tie your hair up and eat comfortably. Also, the disposable apron is black. Splashes of jjamppong broth or jajangmyeon sauce can be stressful on a white apron, but black was a relief.

Tasting the cockle jjamppong rice, kids' jajangmyeon and fried dumplings

Cockle jjamppong rice, 11,000 won

First up is the kkomak jjamppong rice. Last time I had the regular kkomak jjamppong, but this time I chose the rice version. I'm told a small amount of noodles is added even to the rice version for extra depth of flavor, so keep that in mind. It's packed full of cockles, which is great.

Kids' jajangmyeon, 4,000 won

Next is the kids' jajangmyeon, which was actually my favorite item here. Whenever you go for Chinese food with a kid, you inevitably end up ordering a full-size jajangmyeon, which can feel like a lot. But here, there's no need. The vegetables in the jajang sauce are finely chopped too, so it's easy to feed to a child.

Fried dumplings, 6,000 won

Last up, the fried dumplings. I figured dumplings are all pretty much the same, but nope! Freshly fried, they were so crispy and delicious. I'll definitely order these again next time.

Is Bultina worth a family dinner in Dongtan?

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch fills up and gets a wait during meal times. It's great for coming with a child and just as good for group visits — this was our Dongtan Bultina visit.
