I'd been craving grilled fish for a while, so I headed to a grilled fish restaurant in Yongwon, Jinhae. This time I visited Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, Changwon Yongwon Branch! It's a place where you can enjoy fish grilled in a wood-fired oven, plus unlimited refills on side dishes and even a self-serve bibimbap corner where you can make your own bowl — a really filling meal.
For anyone looking for a clean, satisfying restaurant around Yongwon, Jinhae, here's my honest review. 🤍

At Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, Changwon Yongwon Branch, the basic side dishes, rice, and lettuce wraps are all unlimited refill. The side dish lineup is great!!! And all of it is refillable. Every single one is the kind of side dish that makes you eat more rice — and even the rice itself is unlimited.
Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles) and braised tofu
Old-style sausage, stir-fried sausage with fish cake, and sungnyung (scorched rice tea)
Tofu ssamjang (dipping sauce), crisp cucumber peppers, black sesame lotus root tofu, and other side dishes
Even the lettuce wraps are unlimited refill. The self-serve bar lineup even includes dishes kids can eat, so it felt well put together. It's a menu that pretty much anyone can enjoy without pickiness! It was convenient to be able to grab more of whatever side dish ran low, and it was great pairing several side dishes with the grilled fish.
What comes with the 16,000-won wood-fired mackerel set?
My family ordered the Hwadeok Mackerel Set. It's ₩16,000 per person, and the highlight is mackerel grilled in a 500-degree wood-fired oven — crispy and moist at the same time!
The mackerel set comes with grilled fish, rice, soup, and side dishes. Putting the golden-brown grilled mackerel on top of warm rice, along with the soup and side dishes, made for a really filling meal. The set was so generous that we didn't need to add anything else — it was already a plentiful spread.
First, warm sungnyung to settle the stomach before the meal~
The mackerel that came out as the main dish had a beautifully golden-brown surface, and when I flaked it apart, the flesh inside was moist and tender. The mackerel's distinct savory, clean flavor really came through, and it paired wonderfully with warm rice.
With the warm soup alongside it, the meal went down smoothly without feeling dry, and having rice, fish, soup, and side dishes all together made it far more filling than expected.
Eating the grilled fish together with several side dishes made a bowl of rice disappear fast. And since rice was unlimited too, I could eat as much as I wanted haha.
How does the self-serve bibimbap corner work?
On one side of Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, Changwon Yongwon Branch, there's also a bibimbap (mixed rice bowl) self-serve corner! You pick whatever ingredients you like and mix your own bibimbap — it's fun, and it's also great for a filling meal.
Grilled fish and bibimbap together is a combination that's hard to mess up. 🤭 Piling various ingredients on rice, mixing it all up, and eating it alongside the grilled fish was really satisfying. If you feel like grilled fish alone isn't quite enough, I'd recommend making the most of the bibimbap self-serve corner too.
Is grilled fish in Yongwon worth it, and who is it for?
This visit to Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo was satisfying because I got to enjoy not just grilled fish but also hearty side dishes and bibimbap together. The unlimited side dish refills plus the bibimbap self-serve corner especially made for a really filling meal.
