Today I had lunch at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, a new spot in Yongwon. It made me so happy to finally have genuinely delicious grilled fish again. Even with two babies in tow, having a private room made the meal really easy!

A clean space, kind staff, and a private room for a comfortable, cozy meal — I left very satisfied, so let's get into the review!

Where is it in central Yongwon, and where do you park?

This is the exterior of Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, Changwon Yongwon Branch, located in central Yongwon. Parking was available for about 3–4 cars right in front of the restaurant. Parking in Yongwon is usually really tough, so it was great that this place had spots right out front.

Does the private room really fit a stroller and two kids?

This is the interior of Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, Changwon Yongwon Branch. It looks like one long hall, but there are private rooms on the right side that aren't visible in this shot (I got detailed photos below!).

This is the room at the end of the long tables. It's bigger than the other rooms, so it seemed great for small group meals.

There were rooms lined up like this on the right side of the restaurant. I was so happy to see this, haha, because there were two adults with two babies — one of them was only 5 months old and came in a deluxe stroller! Even with the stroller and a baby chair inside, the room was spacious enough to be really comfortable.

Menu and prices: six kinds of fish plus a kids' set

I took photos of the full menu at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, Changwon Yongwon Branch. This Yongwon-dong grilled fish restaurant has a wide variety of fish — you can choose mackerel, atka mackerel, Spanish mackerel, hairtail, yellow corvina, or dried yellow corvina. Besides grilled fish, they also have a stir-fried pork set and a marinated crab set. They sell a kids' set too, so it's great to visit with children. Alcohol is ₩1,500 for an opening event — I really felt like having a drink but held off, sadly. Since there's a self-serve bar, please note that anyone elementary school age and up needs to order one menu item per person.

You could even choose between white rice and brown rice, haha.

What's on the self-serve bar? Side dishes, rice and scorched-rice tea refills

Once we ordered, we headed to the self-serve bar to scoop up side dishes. There were fresh leafy vegetables for wraps and lots of variety.

This was the spot where you could make your own bibimbap (mixed rice). Sesame oil, gochujang (red chili paste), and mixing bowls were set up above.

Pink sausage, stir-fried Vienna sausage and fish cake, scorched-rice tea, japchae (glass noodle stir-fry), braised tofu — there was also a rice cooker at the self-serve bar, so you could scoop more if you ran out. This is a Yongwon-dong lunch spot where you're definitely not leaving hungry.

These are the basic side dishes they bring out at first — you can grab more of whatever runs low from the self-serve bar.

Since there were two of us, we brought back small portions of a bunch of side dishes, haha.

How does the wood-fired grilled mackerel set taste?

The mackerel set I ordered came out... wow, the mackerel was really big! Compare it to the size of the spoon, haha. Doesn't the color look amazing too?

Plenty of siraegi guk (dried radish green soup) too~

Here's the full spread of the grilled mackerel set! The mackerel completely stole the show. Knowing it was cooked in a wood-fired oven made it look even more delicious... The mackerel wasn't a whole fish per serving, but a large half-mackerel.

The mackerel was so well-seasoned and tender that it was the best grilled fish I've had in a while! Honey-sweet flavor♥

Even just rice wrapped with the tofu ssamjang (dipping sauce) from the self-serve bar was delicious. I figured the tofu would make it less salty, so I piled it on, but it turned out a bit salty, haha.

My sister and I scooped a bowl of rice to share and finished off the scorched-rice tea too, down to the last drop. You've got to eat well when you're raising kids~ ^^^*

Final verdict on lunch at Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo with two kids

Visiting with two kids and being able to eat so comfortably left me very satisfied with Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo, Changwon Yongwon Branch. It only just opened, so won't it become a waiting-list restaurant soon?! If you're looking for somewhere to eat lunch in Yongwon-dong, I highly recommend this place~!!!!
