Gumi café with red bean bread and iced caffe latte: Otters Jisan

After a delicious lunch with my family, I wasn't quite ready to head home, so my parents, husband and I went out for a cup of coffee. This time we visited Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch, known as one of the bigger cafés in Gumi.

We'd planned on just a light coffee after our meal, but the bakery and doughnut selection was so varied that we ended up getting coffee and doughnuts too! The cream doughnuts we had that day were especially sweet and pillowy soft — they really stuck with me 🩵

When visiting a café with family, parking convenience is always a plus. Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch has a generous amount of parking space, so it's great to visit by car. If you're looking for a large Gumi café with fewer parking worries, this one's worth noting.

How big is this Gumi bakery café?

The café turned out to be bigger than I expected! From the outside alone it stood out — a large building unlike a typical café.

Inside, there was a variety of seating and an overall relaxed atmosphere. Since we were visiting with my parents, a spacious café with roomy seats is much more comfortable than a cramped one.

It felt like a great space for a group visit, or for stopping by with family after a meal.

Once inside, there's a wide range of not just drinks but also bakery items and desserts. We picked out some bread to go with our coffee.

What bakery items does Otters Jisan Saetgang have?

Otters felt less like a coffee-only café and more like a bakery café where you can enjoy bread and desserts together. There were so many kinds of bread that I spent a good while deciding what to pick as soon as I walked in.

What caught our eye that day were the cream doughnuts. We picked one blueberry cream doughnut and one plain cream doughnut. And we added a red bean bread to share with my parents.

Of everything we had that day, the cream doughnuts were the most memorable! Once I bit into one, the dough part was really soft and pillowy. I personally prefer a soft, fluffy texture over doughnuts that are too dense or dry.

Otters' cream doughnut gave easily with each bite, and it went really well with the cream inside.

The blueberry cream doughnut added a fresh tartness to the sweet cream, making it a bit lighter to eat, while the plain cream doughnut had a classic cream taste that anyone could enjoy without hesitation. Personally, the soft texture of the doughnuts was what I liked most. Eating them with coffee made for a perfect after-meal dessert.

Is the iced caffe latte sour or nutty?

My mom, dad and I all ordered the iced caffe latte. Personally, when it comes to coffee, I prefer a nutty, smooth flavor over one with strong acidity.

Otters' caffe latte didn't have much sourness and had a nutty flavor, so it was easy to drink without any burden. The milk and coffee blended smoothly, making it a good choice after a meal too. My mom, dad and I each sipped our own latte and chatted at ease. There really is something nice, even in a small way, about having coffee at a café after a meal with family.

My husband ordered the iced vanilla latte. I tried a sip too — it had that distinct vanilla latte sweetness without being overly sugary. Just sweet enough that anyone who likes a sweeter coffee would enjoy it.

I usually prefer caffe latte, but the vanilla latte was so good that day that I stole a sip or two from my husband's cup, hehe.

Just cream doughnuts alone felt like not quite enough, so we picked up a red bean bread too. It had a different feel from the sweet cream doughnuts and paired well with the coffee.

Especially when visiting with parents, it's nice to have options beyond sweet desserts like doughnuts — red bean bread and other bakery items round out the selection 🙂👍

A relaxed coffee break with parents in Gumi

This time, four of us — my parents, my husband and I — visited together. Instead of heading straight home after our meal, stopping by the café for coffee and conversation made the time feel much more relaxed.

Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch is a fairly large café, so it's great for visiting with family or a group! Parking is convenient and there's a wide variety of bakery items, so it's a good spot when you want to enjoy bread and desserts along with your coffee, not just coffee alone.

On this visit with my family to Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch, I loved that the iced caffe latte was nutty without strong acidity, and my husband's iced vanilla latte was pleasantly sweet without being too much. But what stuck with me most were the blueberry and plain cream doughnuts! They were so soft and pillowy that they paired perfectly with the coffee.
