Gumi café with macadamia vanilla latte and floor seating: Otters Jisan
In short
Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch is a large otter-themed bakery café on Seonsan-daero in Gumi, Gyeongbuk. The order was four doughnuts — chestnut cream, crème brûlée, apple cinnamon and berry strawberry — plus the autumn seasonal drinks, a macadamia vanilla cream latte and a strawberry ade, and each doughnut's cream tasted different enough that they never got tiring. With a free large parking lot, a nursing room, baby chairs and floor group seating on the 2nd floor, Otters Jisan Saetgang is an easy pick for families.

I heard there was a cute café in Gumi, so I went to check it out — turned out to be a way bigger bakery café than I expected, with tons to eat.
It's a large café so it's great to come with parents too, and with a nursing room and group seating, it's good for kids as well.
+ Dogs are welcome (in a carrier)

Is parking free at Otters Jisan Saetgang?
There's a large parking lot right in front of the café. It's so big there's no way it'd run out of space, and of course parking is free!
The otter-character exterior and entrance

The exterior is super cute right from the start! I wondered why an otter of all things, and apparently otters are a natural monument found right by the nearby Jisan Saetgang stream.

The entrance is on the parking lot side, not the street side. It's obviously the entrance at a glance, so it's easy to find.

The inside feels like this — a café with a strong 1950s American vibe. We came for doughnuts, so we went straight to browsing.
Bakery and drink menu at Otters Jisan Saetgang

Here, the bread is already plated and wrapped in plastic, which I liked. Nice and hygienic.

The recommended breads are melon cream bread, corn soboro bread, chestnut milk bread, and chocolate baguette, but since I was there for doughnuts, I just looked and passed.

But the bread looked good too, so I was a little tempted haha.

Still, the doughnuts looked even better and there were so many kinds, so I ended up buying four doughnuts haha.

The drink menu is above the counter, so you just pick from there.

Since it's now fall, they had autumn menu items, so I went with an autumn drink — can't resist a seasonal menu.

There's also a separate drink menu for kids, so it's good to come here with children too.
How spacious is the 1st-floor seating?
The inside seating at Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch is split between the 1st and 2nd floors. The 1st floor has a range of tables from 2-seaters to 4-seaters. The space is wide enough to seat plenty of people on the 1st floor alone.
There were a lot of people in their 50s-60s, along with couples in their 20s and couples with kids — it seems to draw all ages.
Baby chairs and other conveniences

Since it's a bakery café, there's a self-service area in case you want to pack up leftover bread. Water is available from the water purifier right next to it.

There's even an oven for reheating cooled bread!

There's even a Kodak four-cut photo booth for making memories! But it was under maintenance when we visited, so we couldn't use it. :(

The restrooms are the women's on the 1st floor and the men's on the 2nd floor.
There are also cute photo zones scattered all over the place. Kids will probably love the otter mascot.
Inside the nursing room
One reason Otters is great to visit with kids is the nursing room. Not many cafés have one, so the owner clearly has good sense!
The inside of the nursing room was very clean too, with everything needed already set up.
Until when can you use the 2nd-floor floor and group seating?
The 2nd floor of Otters Jisan Saetgang Main Branch only operates until 5 PM. If you want to use the floor seating and group seating up there, it's best to visit before evening.

You have to take the stairs to reach the 2nd floor. It's narrower than the 1st floor, but still fairly spacious.

There's also a photo zone on the 2nd floor.

The 2nd floor has both floor tables and regular tables, so you can sit wherever you like. Note that for hygiene reasons, dogs and babies aren't allowed at the floor tables. But there's plenty of other seating, so no worries.

Behind a partition wall there's even group seating, making this a great spot to visit with a big group.
Sometimes cafés with two floors don't bother putting water on the 2nd floor, which is annoying, but here there's a water purifier upstairs too, which is convenient.
How did the four doughnuts and the autumn drinks taste?

Macadamia vanilla cream latte, strawberry ade, chestnut cream doughnut, crème brûlée doughnut, apple cinnamon doughnut, berry strawberry doughnut. We ordered them in this order, as shown in the photo.

Even though there were quite a lot of customers, the food came out fast! They let you know it's ready with a buzzer. The ade was refreshing and the coffee was sweet without being too sweet — really good!

Cross-section of the chestnut cream doughnut. The doughnuts are generously filled with cream inside, so they're really satisfying to eat. Usually doughnuts like these all taste kind of similar, but here each cream flavor is different, so you don't get tired of eating them. If you're looking for a bakery café or a large café in Gumi, this one's recommended.
