An Ansan sashimi restaurant on the way to Daebudo
Before heading off on a Daebudo trip, I visited Eochongye 1beonji, an Ansan sashimi restaurant! I happened to find it while looking for a good place near Banwol Island on the way from Seoul, so I went straight in.

The menu was packed with fresh seasonal assorted sashimi, seafood, fried dishes, and even spicy fish stew. It looked great for a lunch special, or for having fresh sashimi with a drink in the evening.
The seasonal fish in the salmon assorted sashimi platter

Eochongye 1beonji, an Ansan sashimi restaurant, looked gorgeous from the start!! The standard platter included salmon, olive flounder, and seasonal fish; that day, it came with spotted knifejaw, flounder, and small yellowtail. Personally, my favorite sashimi was the spotted knifejaw!

There were so many banchan (Korean side dishes), the table was practically groaning under them. There was ice beneath the assorted sashimi too, so every last piece stayed fresh~

There were lots of things to enjoy with it, including octopus ceviche sauce, special makjang (fermented soybean and chili paste), and Cheongyang shiitake mushrooms. Of them all, the octopus ceviche sauce that had been so hot on social media was exactly my thing with its sweet-and-tangy flavor... Eochongye 1beonji really stood out among Banwol Island sashimi restaurants!

The engawa (flounder fin) and olive flounder were sliced quite thickly, highlighting their rich, silky texture. Beyond the freshness, every sauce had such a distinct personality that the sashimi felt delicious in a totally different way with each one.

Small yellowtail that paired beautifully with the special makjang
And the small yellowtail! It was less rich than large yellowtail, but dipping it in the special makjang really brought out the flavor! If you love a chewy texture, this could become your favorite kind of sashimi.

The salmon melted moistly in my mouth and was so soft and nutty!! With the onion and tartar sauce served alongside, its richness was cut right through, making it even lighter and easier to eat.
Spicy fish stew with an added kalguksu noodle portion

Eochongye 1beonji's maeuntang (spicy fish stew)! Its generous look and the substantial amount of fish immediately caught my eye! Above all, the broth was so refreshing that I felt cleared out right to my core.

Partway through, I ordered an extra portion of kalguksu (knife-cut noodles). It was nice to enjoy the stew refreshingly at first, then thick and hearty with the noodles—and it was perfect with drinks too.
The spacious, clean interior and visitor information

Eochongye 1beonji, said to be the best value among Ansan sashimi restaurants, was well cared for from the exterior right down to the fish tanks.

The interior was clean, spacious, and large, so among Ansan sashimi restaurants it also seemed great for group gatherings or family get-togethers!

Instructions on how to enjoy the meal were posted between the tables, and there was a wide variety of sauces to pair with the sashimi. Eochongye 1beonji was also running various events.

Why it was a great stop before a Daebudo trip
Eochongye 1beonji, the Ansan sashimi restaurant I visited on the way to Daebudo, had a great menu selection and reasonable prices. But the quality and freshness of the assorted sashimi were truly in a league of their own.
With Banwol Island and other places to visit in Ansan nearby, it was a wonderfully easy stop during a family trip. Eochongye 1beonji was clean and well maintained, and the staff were kind too^^ Next time I visit, I need to try the delightfully firm flounder as well.
