Sangmu dinner restaurant in Gwangju: three dishes my daughter picked
In short
Bueokgan Sangmu Branch is a wood-fired pizza and pasta restaurant in the Sangmu district of Seo-gu, Gwangju. Arriving at sunset with her elementary-school daughter, the writer ordered pepperoni pizza, shrimp rosé pasta and Kung Pao chicken pilaf, and found the wood-fired pizza clean-tasting rather than greasy. Between the vintage classic hotel interior inspired by the Titanic's ballroom and the food, Bueokgan Sangmu Branch gets both atmosphere and flavour right.

What Bueokgan Sangmu Branch looks like by day and by night
Known as one of Gwangju's prettiest restaurants, Bueokgan Sangmu Branch clearly puts its heart into the interior — and it starts right from the outside.

The exterior is really gorgeous too — it genuinely feels like you've stepped into some restaurant in Europe!

It looks just as atmospheric at night. Bueokgan, the Sangmu restaurant that's beautiful both day and night.
Inside the Titanic ballroom-inspired interior

Designed around a vintage classic Italian hotel concept inspired by the Titanic's ballroom, Bueokgan Sangmu Branch even has arched seating that felt refreshingly different.

Shot from the side, it photographs beautifully ^^

Bueokgan Sangmu Branch breaks the stereotype that Gwangju's 'aesthetic' restaurants only look pretty in photos while being uncomfortable and mediocre in taste. In a space this lovely, you can enjoy a cozy, relaxed atmosphere for dates, family gatherings, group dinners, or wedding-invitation meetups. Places like this just naturally put you in a good mood — happiness dopamine included, haha.

All the vintage furniture and decor at this Gwangju restaurant were imported directly from the UK, France, and Italy. Very Europe-Europe, right? The chairs used throughout Bueokgan Sangmu Branch are all Karimoku, the round tables feature Louis Poulsen lighting, and at the center of the restaurant hangs a Robert Haussmann Atomic chandelier. A Sangmu restaurant well worth visiting if you're serious about interiors and furniture.

There's real joy just in browsing the little decor pieces ^^

As the sunset falls, the atmosphere at this Sangmu pasta restaurant just ripens. Now that we've admired the gorgeous interior, aren't you curious how the food tastes?
The three dishes ordered at Bueokgan Sangmu Branch
Even the table setting feels like Bueokgan

The cutlery is really pretty, isn't it? It matches Bueokgan so well!
Pepperoni wood-fired pizza

The pepperoni pizza my two-months-along princess ordered. Baked in a wood-fired oven, it's not greasy at all — light and clean. Bueokgan's pizza sits easy on the stomach and doesn't feel heavy. Eaten with a bit of Tabasco sauce and pickles, it's so good ^^

As a side note, Bueokgan's pickles are seriously, seriously delicious ㅠㅠ

Thank you, chef, for being so generous with the ingredients! Whenever pizza's on my mind, it's Bueokgan Sangmu.
Shrimp rosé pasta

A creamy rosé pasta made charming by its plump shrimp and mushrooms. This was also chosen by my two-months-along princess! When a food-savvy elementary schooler picks the menu, it almost never disappoints ~ We ate it up happily ^^
Kung Pao chicken pilaf

Salty, spicy, and a fan favorite at Bueokgan — the Kung Pao chicken pilaf. An Asian-style fried rice where oven-roasted chicken pairs beautifully with Kung Pao sauce. If you're someone who has to have rice at a meal, this is the dish for you.

Is Bueokgan Sangmu Branch worth it for both looks and taste?
Every single decor piece at Bueokgan Sangmu is gorgeous. Treat your eyes while enjoying the food at this Sangmu pasta restaurant.

A Sangmu pasta restaurant that's caught both rabbits — interior and taste.

Heal in a pretty space and enjoy a great meal on top of it — what could be better :)
