Suwon okonomiyaki restaurant with mentaiko gyoza set: Jojo AK Plaza
In short
Jojo AK Plaza Suwon is a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant in the basement food hall of AK Plaza at Suwon Station in Suwon, Gyeonggi. The okonomiyaki set costs 22,000 won and brings a savory pancake griddled to order plus 5 pieces of freshly fried mentaiko gyoza (cod roe dumplings), eaten alone at the bar counter. A Japanese teppanyaki specialist from Culinary Class Wars 2, and a great budget-friendly solo dining spot near Suwon Station: Jojo.
After finishing up some errands near Suwon Station, I searched for somewhere good to eat alone and ended up at Jojo AK Plaza Suwon. Jojo is a well-known brand founded by the "teppan master" chef who appeared on Culinary Class Wars 2, and since I love Japanese teppan dishes like okonomiyaki and yakisoba, I went in with high expectations! Here's my review of the Jojo okonomiyaki set — the combination of the salty okonomiyaki sauce and mayo, plus the moist, soft inside, was seriously delicious.

Jojo AK Plaza Suwon is located in the basement food hall of AK Plaza, near the entrance and right next to Starbucks, so it was easy to find.

The menu: order a set and mentaiko gyoza comes with it
Here's the menu board at Jojo AK Plaza Suwon, a Japanese restaurant near Suwon Station. Since Jojo specializes in teppan dishes, there's a nice variety of Japanese-style teppan food to try! Ordering a set meal comes with mentaiko gyoza (cod roe dumplings) on the side, which is much better value, so I went with a set. I ordered Jojo's signature okonomiyaki set.

Jojo AK Plaza Suwon's signature menu items are the Jojo yakisoba and Jojo okonomiyaki! Just looking at the photos made them look so appetizing 😋

There was also a Naver receipt review event going on. It'd be a shame to miss out on an event like this — of course you have to join in! 🤓

Okonomiyaki griddled on the teppan as soon as you order
They fry the okonomiyaki on the teppan the moment you order! Jojo AK Plaza Suwon doesn't make things ahead of time — they cook right after ordering, so it's warmer and tastier.

Bar seats made for solo dining
The seating is bar-style, which is great for eating alone, and plenty of other people were dining solo just like me — though there were also quite a few couples on dates. Right next to it were shared 2- and 4-person tables used by customers of all the food hall restaurants, so it felt easy and relaxed to eat there. This is exactly the advantage of a department store food hall haha.

What comes in the 22,000 won okonomiyaki set
Before long, the okonomiyaki set (₩22,000) arrived — Jojo okonomiyaki plus 5 pieces of mentaiko gyoza. The okonomiyaki's visuals were insane..😋

The Jojo okonomiyaki looked so appetizing ✨ The swirl-patterned sauce on top made the whole thing look even better!👍 Just one pancake was thick and hearty enough to fill the whole table — it made my mouth water haha.

And there was the mentaiko gyoza too, looking crispy just from the sight of it!! 👏 With a side dish included, it made for an even more filling, satisfying spread — I'd definitely recommend ordering the set menu 😊

How the Jojo okonomiyaki tastes, packed with fillings
Between the thickly fried batter, the fillings were generous — lots of cabbage gave a gentle sweetness and crunchy texture, while squid, shrimp, beef and pork added savory seafood umami plus a clean meaty flavor. I enjoyed it even more because of that combination👍

There was squid and shrimp in there too. The Jojo okonomiyaki had a great springy texture! Rich flavor and texture together, with the sweet-and-savory sauce adding deep umami all the way to the last bite. The inside was moist and soft, and it was so delicious💕 The pancake was also pretty big in size, so even as a big eater, I was really full eating it by myself!!

Five pieces of mentaiko gyoza, fried fresh
Mentaiko gyoza with cod roe inside!🥟🥟🥟 Just looking at it, it seemed super crispy, and since it came freshly fried, it was really piping hot.

Taking a bite, it tasted quite different from the fried mandu (dumplings) we're used to. You could really taste the seafood flavor of the mentaiko coming through, giving it much more umami than expected — I was pleasantly surprised. It also paired really well with the sweet and salty okonomiyaki👍

Dipping it into the flying fish roe sauce doubled the nutty, salty flavor and made it even more enjoyable!🥟💕
