Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant, brazier relit three times: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a brazier-grilled gyukatsu (beef cutlet) Japanese restaurant on the B1 level of Seoul Station in Jung-gu, Seoul. The writer grilled the gyukatsu on Isigny salted butter and ate it with salt, chili sauce and wasabi, then grilled the mochi and cheese from the Kakao review event, finishing by piling the browned cheese onto the mochi. Eating slowly meant relighting the brazier three times, but the writer cleared the plate for the first time in ages and names Ichigyu the pick for gyukatsu at Seoul Station.

I once went hunting for the best gyukatsu near Seoul Station and ended up at Hurato, which was disappointing. This time I found a really good spot, so please, if you want gyukatsu at Seoul Station, just go here ~~ Seoul Station restaurant Ichigyu.

It's on the basement floor of what looked like an LG building, so a lot of nearby office workers seemed to come for lunch. Recommended as a Seoul Station lunch spot 😉

How long is the wait, and what are the seats like?
Not sure if remote waiting is possible, but there's a Catch Table kiosk right in front of the restaurant where you can put your name down. When I went in there was no wait, but by the time I left a line had formed, lol.

Still, there are quite a lot of two-seat tables, so it seems like they can handle a fair number of people. I saw some solo diners too.

Menu and what we ordered at Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch
I came to Seoul Station restaurant Ichigyu wanting gyukatsu, but the hamburg omurice on the menu almost made my eyes wander! Then the smell of gyukatsu drifting over from the next table pulled me back, so I ordered gyukatsu as planned.

If you're planning to have even one drink, it's better to order the set. Oh, and about the 'how to eat it right' sign — we just took a photo and didn't actually read it, lol. Apparently you're supposed to divide the butter into 3 portions. We divided ours into like 6–7 portions to make it last, haha 😖

Two review events: Naver shrimp or Kakao mochi and cheese
Seoul Station restaurant Ichigyu is running two review events .ᐟ Naver review → fried shrimp; Kakao review → mochi & cheese. You can join both, but I wasn't really craving the shrimp so I only did the Kakao review event.

The rice came out separately first, like this. You scoop it into your own bowl, and refills are available if you need more ~ but I'm dieting, so I only had a little.

How many times do you relight the brazier?
They lit the brazier first. I wonder how many times other people usually relight it when they get gyukatsu? We're pretty slow eaters, so we went through 3 candles, and we hurried up eating for fear the third one would go out too... But whenever I look around, no one else seems to ask for as many relights as we do, lol, haha.

How does the gyukatsu taste?
Seoul Station restaurant Ichigyu, the color of the meat looks so good ¿ ❛ᴗ❛ I've seen a lot of gyukatsu places that offer butter, but this is actually my first time visiting one. I love Isigny salted butter ㅠㅠㅠ so I was really looking forward to this 🤍

We also ordered a fried egg each, and they came out on individual plates like this.
They melt the butter first, then place the meat pieces on one at a time.

Ooh, can you tell how juicy it is? If you grill it just right, it's not chewy at all — so tender! The outer coating stays crispy while the inside is packed with juicy moisture — crispy-outside-juicy-inside itself ❥

Salt, chili sauce or wasabi: the one pick
I enjoyed it in various combinations — salt, chili sauce, wasabi ´⌣` Each one gave a totally different vibe, ㅠㅠㅠ. Since the meat itself is so tender, it's delicious no matter how you eat it, but my top pick was salt 🧂

The third relight was already flickering out, and asking for a fourth felt like too much, so we hurriedly started grilling two pieces at a time.
Grilling the Kakao review-event mochi and cheese
This is the cheese & mochi I got from the review event. Just like the gyukatsu, you put butter on top and grill it sizzling — but the flame had gotten so weak I couldn't grill it properly •́ . •̀,, Asking them to relight the fire just for this felt like too much, so I just grilled it as best I could and ate it.

But even not fully grilled, it was still amazing ㅠ. I ate the cheese first — savory and kind of chewy? ദ്ദി

The mochi was also super chewy, totally my style ㅠ.ㅠ Grilled with a slight crispness, plus the buttery flavor on top — seriously delicious.

After finishing all the cheese, with one piece of mochi left, I suddenly thought, ah, I should've eaten the cheese and mochi together... So out of regret, I scraped up the cheese stuck to the pan and put it on the last mochi — and it went together perfectly!!!!

I finished the whole meal for once in a long time. Seoul Station restaurant Ichigyu, totally recommend it! I'd definitely come back next time I have a train to catch.
