Gojan-dong eel buffet with an onion pickle self-serve bar: Songnim Bok

Today I want to introduce Songnim Bok Jangeo, an eel restaurant near Ansan City Hall in Gojan-dong.

My mom recently said she needed some restorative food and mentioned eel, so I went looking for a good spot. I found a place where you could enjoy all-you-can-eat eel without it being expensive at all. Getting to eat as much eel as we wanted meant a proper body-boosting meal, so we headed over.

Where is Songnim Bok Jangeo Ansan City Hall branch? Parking and hours

Songnim Bok Jangeo Freshwater Eel All-You-Can-Eat Ansan City Hall Direct Store is on the 2nd floor of a building near Ansan City Hall, with its own basement parking. Having separate basement parking makes it really convenient even if you drive. Just tell a staff member after your meal :) Take the elevator straight up to the 2nd floor and it's easy to find.

There are noodle dishes that go well with eel, plus eel soup, yukgaejang (spicy beef soup), and galbitang (short rib soup), so take a look.

Free bokbunja wine — and yes, you can take it home

In the evening you can enjoy the eel all-you-can-eat menu, and they gave us bokbunja (black raspberry wine) as a service.

I didn't drink since I'd driven, but this seems like a really great service for people at company dinners or those who drink! Looking around, there were a lot of people having group dinners, so it seemed perfect for a palate-cleansing sip. They told us to take it home if we weren't drinking it right away, so I brought the bokbunja wine home and put it to good use haha.

What is the dining room like? Nearly full with Gojan-dong group dinners

The inside of Songnim Bok's Ansan City Hall branch is clean and pleasant. When I visited it was almost fully booked, and it seemed perfect for company dinners since there were so many office workers there haha. Plus, since it's all-you-can-eat, you can enjoy it as much as you want without worrying about the budget!

Not just eel: chicken neck and pork belly on the grill too

One great thing about Songnim Bok is that besides eel, you can also eat chicken neck and pork belly. Honestly, eel gets a bit greasy when I eat a lot of it, so I can't eat too much on its own, but eating it together with meat was really nice. It's an eel specialty restaurant, but the pork belly is delicious too. With such a variety of menu items, I think it'd be a great place to bring kids who don't eat much eel.

Side dishes and the self-serve bar: onion pickle refills, again and again

The side dishes ranged from ginger, which goes well with eel, to pickles, perilla leaves, and kimchi — and they were all delicious, which made the whole meal taste even better.

You can go get as much as you want of any side dish that runs low from the self-serve bar. The onion pickles were especially tasty, so I refilled them several times. All the vegetables were fresh and kept clean and well-managed, so it felt trustworthy!

While you're at the self-serve bar, you can even get a free drink through the Naver receipt-review event, so try joining while you wait! After eating something greasy, a can of soda is perfect as a palate cleanser haha.

How to grill eel so it tastes best

Once the burner is lit, you grill the eel yourself, and there were instructions on how to do it right. Remove the eel's fin, cook both sides evenly, then stand it on its side to cook once more.

I'd honestly never grilled eel myself before, so I fumbled a bit at first, but I got the hang of it quickly haha. We ate our fill and had a really solid restorative meal.

Is the quality good for an all-you-can-eat? Takeout and free coffee

Songnim Bok also does takeout sales, so it's a great place to grab some for people around you after eating. At first I was worried the quality might not be great since it's an all-you-can-eat place, but after visiting, that worry completely disappeared. These days even all-you-can-eat places seem to care a lot about quality, so there's really no reason not to go haha. After finishing your meal, you can even have free coffee.
