Yongin Korean restaurant for sesame-oil shabu wraps: Jangwongap
In short
Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch is a Korean restaurant in Yongin, Gyeonggi, near Giheung Lotte Outlet. After shopping with my mom, we had brisket and minari shabu kalguksu for 15,500 won per person, added brisket for 13,000 won, and finished with free perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice. Verdict: a wonderfully filling meal, especially for the fragrant sesame-oil Chami Ssam wraps.

A great spot near Giheung Lotte Outlet in Gomae-dong, Yongin: Jangwongap Kalguksu!

After weekday shopping at Giheung Outlet with my mom, the weather had turned chilly and I was craving a warming bowl of kalguksu, so we visited Jangwongap Kalguksu~ There was a large parking area, wonderfully chewy house-made noodles, and even free fried rice! Let me get right into this food-filled review.
Location and parking at Jangwongap Kalguksu Yongin Giheung Branch
It is on the first floor at 90 Gomae-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin, Gyeonggi-do, and is open daily from 10:30 to 21:00. Parking is available in front of the restaurant.

This is the exterior of Jangwongap Kalguksu that I visited today.

There was parking right in front, so it was easy to park!
A spacious interior with high chairs

Here is the restaurant's clean, white-toned interior. The tables were generously spaced, making it nice to eat at a relaxed pace. When dining out with a child, you need room for a stroller or high chair, and the wide walkways made me think it would be great to visit with kids too.

The kitchen was open too, and it was kept very clean!

There were also plenty of high chairs prepared along one side.

Ordering the brisket and minari shabu kalguksu
Here is the Jangwongap menu. Its signature dish is Chadol Minari Ssam Shabu Kalguksu, or shabu kalguksu with beef brisket and minari wraps. There are also live abalone and brisket shabu kalguksu, basic shabu kalguksu, and basic kalguksu without meat, plus sides including whole-shrimp seafood pajeon (Korean scallion pancake) and Jochiwon peach bibim mandu (spicy mixed dumplings).
- Chadol Minari Ssam Shabu Kalguksu, 2 servings: ₩15,500
- Extra beef brisket: ₩13,000
My mom and I debated what to get, then ordered the signature dish~ I considered seafood pajeon as a side... but I love meat so much that, to keep the momentum going, haha, I added extra beef brisket hehe.

Every table has clear instructions on how to enjoy the shabu kalguksu, so even first-time visitors can have a delicious meal.

The self-service corner had broth, children's tableware, bowls, wasabi, spicy pepper seasoning, kimchi, and more, so you could easily help yourself.
Jangwongap Kalguksu serves perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice for free, so make sure you save room for fried rice! Hehe.

Shabu kalguksu piled with minari and mushrooms
Our food came out quickly as soon as we ordered~ The pot arrived filled to the brim with fresh minari and mushrooms piled high over the broth!

Glistening brisket, kimchi, sauces, and house-made kalguksu noodles—it filled the entire table.

How do you eat Chami Ssam?
Jangwongap's patented specialty!!! It is called Chami Ssam. Mix the salt well into the little dish of sesame oil, then generously dip the meat and raw minari in it, or dip a wrap of meat + raw minari + salted hairtail innards in the sesame oil.

I blanched the brisket in the broth first and immediately tried a Chami Ssam bite. The sesame oil was so nutty~ It went incredibly well with the fragrant minari and rich brisket!

Once the broth was bubbling away, I added the rest of the brisket, then fished out the cooked meat and vegetables together. I wrapped tender cooked brisket around crisp minari, gave it a deep dip in soy sauce, and took a bite—the savory meat juices and minari's distinctive fresh fragrance worked so beautifully together. The mushrooms had a lovely chewy texture too! And the broth, steeped with plenty of meat and vegetables, was excellent as well hehe.

House-made noodles with a sesame-oil dip
After eating a good amount of the ingredients, it was time for the highlight: in went the kalguksu noodles~~ Jangwongap Kalguksu makes its noodles in-house, and they really did feel clearly different from store-bought noodles.
They were not only chewy but also delightfully springy. Here is a little tip: lift out the cooked noodles and lightly dip them in the nutty oil sauce. The salty, broth-soaked chewy noodles get coated in a deep sesame-oil aroma, doubling the savory flavor. You really have to try this kalguksu + sesame-oil dip combination!

Free perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice and after-meal treats
I was sooo full... but you simply cannot skip Korean fried rice, hehe. Jangwongap Kalguksu offers perilla oil kkakdugi fried rice as a free service!

This fried rice is made in the pot with rice, perilla oil, and kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi). The fragrant perilla oil and tangy, crunchy kkakdugi were such a great pairing that I could not put down my spoon even though I was full haha. After the fried rice, I definitely felt properly satisfied hehe.

On the way out after paying, there were various kinds of puffed snacks and a sweet misutgaru (mixed-grain powder) slush offered as an after-meal service~ I was too full for the puffed snacks, so I had a cup of misutgaru as a palate cleanser before leaving!
House-made kalguksu filled with fresh ingredients and care in a spacious, pleasant space! Plus, filling free fried rice~ If you are looking for a satisfying, delicious meal near Gomae-dong, do visit Jangwongap Kalguksu :)
