My husband and I were looking for somewhere to have dinner in Hyehwa, and since we'd been craving Indian curry and naan for a while, we headed to Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch. I thought about just ordering a curry on its own, but they had a set menu that lets you try several things at once, so we went with the Meono Kkameona Set A for two. The portions turned out to be surprisingly generous for two people, so let me introduce everything one by one :)

Meono Kkameona Daehangno Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Exit 4 of Hyehwa Station. It's an easy walk from the station, so the location works well for a meal after catching a show in Daehangno or for a date.

There were several tables, so it works fine for two people, but reservations and group bookings are also possible, which seems handy if you're looking for a spot to eat with a group in Daehangno.

Looking at the menu, there was a really wide variety of curries. Rather than ordering several dishes separately, we went with the Meono Kkameona Set A for two. The set lets you pick one curry for two people, so we chose chicken korma, swapped the plain naan for garlic naan, and ordered one plain and one strawberry lassi.

After ordering, onion kimchi, pickles, and jalapeños came out first. It was a nice basic side-dish lineup to nibble on between bites of spiced dishes like curry or tandoori chicken.

Before the food came out, a basic salad arrived first. It had carrots and cabbage over lettuce with a generous amount of a refreshing yuzu-and-tangerine-style sauce, and it was nice for perking up the appetite before diving into the curry.

Plain and strawberry lassi: which one to order

The plain lassi was smooth and mellow, while the strawberry one had added strawberry flavor that made it a bit more refreshing to drink. Sipping it between bites of spiced dishes or tandoori chicken felt like it cleansed the palate, and it paired really well.

How spicy is the tandoori chicken at Meono Kkameona?

The tandoori chicken included in the set came out too. Just looking at it, the seasoning looked bold and I expected it to be pretty spicy, but after tasting it, the spice flavor was distinct without being overly intense. The seasoning was deeply soaked into the outside, and the meat inside was moist.

I tried dipping it in the sauce that came with it and also eating it with the salad, and personally I preferred the combo with the salad. It added a crunchy texture and slightly toned down the spiciness of the tandoori chicken, which worked really well together.

Chicken korma taste: mild and creamy, not spicy

The curry we chose was chicken korma. The menu described it as a smooth chicken curry made with cashews and cream, and true to that, it was a curry centered more on nutty, creamy flavor than heat. The sauce was smooth and rich, so it worked really well for dipping naan into, and with chicken mixed in as well, piling the curry and chicken over rice made for a pretty filling meal. It's a great menu item for people who can't handle spicy curry.

Garlic naan size and how it pairs with the korma

We chose garlic naan, and I was surprised by how big it was the moment it arrived. It had both thin, crisp parts and slightly thicker, chewier parts, so it was fine to just tear off and eat plain, but dunking it deep into the curry was definitely the tastiest way. Since the chicken korma was a mild curry, the garlic aroma of the naan added something extra, and the two paired really well together. At first I wondered if we could finish such a large naan, but dipping it in the curry over and over, it disappeared quickly.

Basmati rice with the curry

The set came with not just naan but also yellow basmati rice. The curry sauce was on the thicker side, so it mixed well with the rice, and topping it with a piece of chicken made for a delicious bite too. Having both naan and rice included was great because we could switch back and forth between them.

Is Meono Kkameona Set A worth it? Our honest verdict

Sharing the Meono Kkameona Set A between the two of us, it was great being able to try several dishes at once — curry, naan, tandoori chicken, salad, rice, and lassi all together. In particular, the chicken korma was mild and smooth, pairing well with the garlic naan, and it seemed like a great option even for people trying Indian curry for the first time.
