Where is Samstar Charcoal Grill in Jeongwang-dong?

Samstar Charcoal Grill is a charcoal barbecue restaurant at 47 Jungsimsangga-ro, 102-ho, Siheung-si, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, near the central commercial district of Jeongwang-dong. It's very accessible and easy to find.

It had been a while since I'd had beef with my dad, just the two of us, so I thought hard about where to go. After hearing reviews about how clean the place was and how good the meat quality is, I headed to Samstar Charcoal Grill.

Inside Samstar Charcoal Grill: atmosphere and family-friendly amenities

The moment I walked through the door, the first thing I noticed was how spacious and pleasant it felt. There was none of the typical smoky or greasy feel you get at a barbecue restaurant — the whole hall was kept very clean. The tables were spaced generously too, making it a great spot for family gatherings, company dinners, or a date night.

What really stood out were the amenities set up on one side of the restaurant.

  • Disposable aprons: plenty were available for hygienic use, so I could eat comfortably without worrying about sauce or grease splashing on my clothes.
  • Wooden high chairs: sturdy wooden chairs were provided for families with young children. That kind of attention to detail made it clear they'd thought of everything for their guests.

These thoughtful touches raised my expectations well before the meal even started. I think a truly great Jeongwang-dong barbecue restaurant needs this kind of comfortable environment and service as a baseline, not just good taste — and Samstar Charcoal Grill passed with flying colors from the first impression.

What's at the self-serve bar and side dish spread?

The basic side dishes at Samstar Charcoal Grill came out neatly arranged: fresh vegetables, a rich and savory vegetable soybean paste soup, and various kinds of kimchi and pickles that go well with meat. They were set right after we placed our order, and the spread was already impressively generous.

Best of all, there was a self-serve refill bar set up on one side of the restaurant.

When you're eating meat, you tend to refill lettuce, garlic, or kimchi often, and it was really convenient to just grab what you needed yourself instead of calling a staff member every time. The vegetables all looked as fresh as if they'd just been picked from the field, and my dad, who loves vegetables, was very happy about that. Being able to enjoy neatly prepared kimchi and fresh vegetables as much as we wanted was a big plus.

Beef galbi platter, 500g for 55,000 won: plain vs marinated

What we ordered was Samstar Charcoal Grill's signature dish, the 'beef galbi platter.' Priced at ₩55,000, it comes with plain beef galbi and marinated beef galbi, 500g total.

When the meat arrived at the table, its bright red color made it clear at a glance: 'Wow, the meat here is really good.' Once the charcoal was ready, we started by grilling the plain beef galbi first.

As it browned nicely over the charcoal, the plain beef galbi picked up a subtle smoky coating while staying full of juice. Dipped lightly in salt, it had a clean, savory flavor that spread more the more you chewed. My dad said he preferred plain beef galbi for letting the natural flavor and texture of the meat shine, and he ate it happily. It had that clean, savory taste that suits an older palate perfectly.

Marinated beef galbi (my pick)

Next we grilled the marinated beef galbi, coated in a sweet and salty sauce. The marinade wasn't too sweet or too salty — it was the perfect balance to boost the meat's savory depth without overpowering it. Grilled over charcoal, it picked up a hint of smoky flavor, and every bite made me let out a little sigh of satisfaction. Personally, the sweet, mouth-coating marinated beef galbi was exactly my style!

Because the platter let us enjoy both plain and marinated beef galbi together, it never got repetitive, and we happily finished it down to the last piece. If you love beef, I highly recommend making the beef galbi platter at Samstar Charcoal Grill, a must-try Jeongwang-dong barbecue restaurant, an essential order.

Finishing with perilla oil buckwheat noodles

After enjoying the meat, we ordered buckwheat noodles as a finishing dessert. Most barbecue restaurants offer water- or spicy-style cold noodles, but Samstar Charcoal Grill's version is served perilla oil style, which stood out.

After mixing it well and taking a big bite, the nutty aroma of perilla oil spread through my mouth while the aftertaste stayed clean. It washed away the greasiness from the meat perfectly, making it an excellent choice for dessert. The chewy noodles combined beautifully with the nutty, clean seasoning, and it wrapped up the meal on a great note.

Is Samstar Charcoal Grill worth a visit? Final verdict

It had been a while since I had dinner with my dad, and I was fully satisfied on every front — from the cleanliness of the restaurant and the friendly service, to the fresh side dishes and, above all, the excellent quality of the meat.

  • Spacious, clean restaurant: thoughtful touches like disposable aprons and wooden high chairs
  • Fresh self-serve bar: unlimited refills of fresh vegetables, various kimchi, and soybean paste soup
  • Excellent meat quality: the clean flavor of plain beef galbi and the savory depth of marinated beef galbi were both fantastic!
  • Clean dessert: a nutty, refreshing finish with perilla oil style buckwheat noodles

If you're looking to enjoy proper beef in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, or searching for a great spot for a family meal out, be sure to visit Samstar Charcoal Grill, a standout Jeongwang-dong barbecue restaurant. With great taste, quality, and service all in one place, it's a choice you won't regret. I'm already planning to go back next time I'm craving delicious beef galbi and perilla oil buckwheat noodles. Highly recommend! 👍
