Shabu-shabu restaurant in Daegu with two broths: Shabu20

In short

Shabu20 Daegu Bokhyeon branch is an all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu restaurant on Gonghang-ro in Buk-gu, Daegu. I had lunch with my husband, choosing half katsuobushi and half spicy broth with beef, vegetables, Vietnamese-style wraps, porridge, and dessert. The parking and generously spaced tables were convenient, though the spicy broth became slightly muddy after adding a lot of meat.

My husband and I went to Shabu20 Daegu Bokhyeon branch (샤브20 대구복현점) near Daegu Airport for a warm shabu-shabu lunch. Along with meat and vegetables, it is an all-you-can-eat restaurant with Vietnamese-style wraps, side dishes, and desserts.

Where is it, and is parking convenient?

The restaurant is on the first floor at 79 Gonghang-ro, Buk-gu, Daegu. It is on a main road, so it was not difficult to find for a first visit, and the dedicated parking lot in front was spacious, making it convenient to come by car.

What is the dining space like for a family meal?

Once inside, the space was larger than I expected. The tables were well spaced, so I could eat without paying much attention to nearby diners, and the vegetables and food at the self-service bar were neatly arranged when I visited. There is group seating and high chairs, as well as separate restrooms for men and women and Wi-Fi.

How were the half katsuobushi and half spicy broths?

Among the various broths, I chose half katsuobushi broth and half spicy broth. Alternating between the two flavors kept me from getting tired of them as quickly as I would with just one broth.

I first added napa cabbage and bean sprouts to the katsuobushi broth and let it boil well. Briefly cooking beef in the broth, which had taken on the flavor of the vegetables, gave it a nice savory depth. Rather than bringing a lot of meat from the beginning, I preferred adding vegetables first.

The spicy broth could become a little muddy and greasy when I added a lot of meat. To enjoy its pleasantly spicy flavor, I found it better to add more vegetables from time to time.

What can you eat from the meat and self-service bar?

What I liked most was being able to take as much beef as I wanted. My husband also liked not having to think about the cost each time we added more meat.

The self-service bar had vegetables for shabu-shabu and a separate Vietnamese-style wrap section. I filled rice paper with warm meat and vegetables and ate it with pineapple.

The side dishes included dakgangjeong (sweet crispy chicken), fried rice, and tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes). They were nice to have in small amounts while the shabu-shabu cooked. However, taking too many sides fills you up quickly, so if you want to eat plenty of shabu-shabu, it would be better to take just a small taste.

Can you finish the meal with porridge and dessert?

We prefer porridge to kalguksu noodles, so we finished with porridge ingredients from the self-service bar. I left an appropriate amount of broth, then added rice, egg, and sesame oil and boiled it; it was nutty and savory. We were already full, but still ended up eating the porridge.

At the end, we brought back ice cream and coffee from the dessert corner. I was happy with the selection because we could finish beef and vegetables, porridge, and dessert all in one place. The parking and table spacing were convenient, and the staff were kind, so I would like to return the next time I am craving shabu-shabu.
