Dong, Daegu café with terrace brunch and river views: Hands Coffee

In short

Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch is a café on a hill at Dongchon Resort in Dong-gu, Daegu, with seating from the second to fourth floors and a fourth-floor terrace. My husband and I had jambon-beurre and creamy mushroom pasta for brunch; the crisp bread, pasta, and Kumho River view made it a relaxing stop, and we walked to nearby Dalmaji Park afterward.

On a nice-weather day, my husband and I went to Hands Coffee Dongchon Resort Branch (핸즈커피 동촌유원지점) for brunch. I found it while looking for a place with an outdoor terrace, and its spacious seating and river view made it a nice place to eat and relax.

Where is it, and what are the opening hours?

The address is 5-6 Hyodong-ro 6-gil, Dong-gu, Daegu. The original post lists its hours as daily from 10:00 to 23:00, open year-round. Group visits and takeout are available, and there is Wi-Fi and separate restrooms for men and women.

If you go straight from Ayang Art Center toward Haemaji Bridge, you can spot a red-brick building up on the left side of the road beside the park. It is on a hill at Dongchon Resort, so it was a good place to stop during a walk.

What are the seating and interior like on each floor?

The café spans the second through fourth floors, and there is an elevator. I ordered on the second floor, while the third and fourth floors are entirely seating areas. I checked the floor directory to see how the space was arranged.

The second floor has the ordering area, seating, and restrooms. Different areas were decorated with paintings, plants, and antique-style objects, which made them enjoyable to look around. Even with the old-fashioned items, it did not feel dated.

The third floor had many seats that looked suitable for one person, and the bar seats also looked out the window. Sofa seats were arranged here and there like separate spaces. I also saw an area for gatherings and one for visitors with babies.

What can you see from the fourth-floor terrace?

Through the fourth-floor floor-to-ceiling windows, I could see Haemaji Bridge and the Kumho River at a glance. The bridge was visible even from the window seats, so the view felt wide open.

The terrace had plenty of seating, and I also saw heaters. On the day I visited, the chairs were maintained without dusty spots, and the breeze was cool. It suited relaxing with my husband, who likes cafés where he can get some fresh air.

What brunch and desserts are available?

There were brunch sets as well as bingsu (shaved ice dessert) and waffles. I had usually come here for dessert, but after having brunch this time, I wanted to return for a meal.

There were many kinds of ice cream, too. Desserts such as handmade glutinous-rice waffles and Hands cookies made me think there would be options for children as well.

There was also a separate brunch set served on a double tray, which looked good for sharing with several people. We had Set B, with jambon-beurre and creamy mushroom pasta.

How were the jambon-beurre and pasta we tried?

The bread was especially good in the jambon-beurre. It was crisp outside and generously filled inside, making it a good brunch choice.

For coffee, we had a long black and a vanilla latte.

The creamy mushroom pasta tasted as good as something from a restaurant specializing in food. My husband said it was good too, and it was a dish I wanted to have again. Eating while looking at the scenery through the floor-to-ceiling windows made me feel calm.

Is parking convenient if you bring a car?

There was plenty of parking when I visited, so it was convenient to come by car.

Seeing the waffle menu banner near the entrance reminded me of the matcha waffle I usually ate. Still, I liked the brunch this time, so I wanted to come back for a brunch set next time.

Is there somewhere nearby to walk after visiting the café?

After leaving the café, we walked to nearby Dalmaji Park. My husband rested briefly at a pavilion, and the tree-filled walking trail was pleasant too. Being able to enjoy brunch and a walk together made it a good outing for the two of us.

This time I visited with just my husband, but the seating was spacious on every floor and there were desserts for children to choose from, so I would like to come back with my child next time.
