Today we went back to our go-to jjokbal spot — the one that comes to mind whenever we think jjokbal! It's got a set menu so it's great value too: Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch in the Suwan district. Last time we visited we basically inhaled the jjokbal because it was so good, so I was really looking forward to today too, haha.

Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch is a jjokbal restaurant on Suwan-ro in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, open daily from 12:00 to 03:00. It's open year-round with no holidays, so it's a perfectly convenient spot to swing by anytime!

Is Kkankkan Jjokbal good for group dinners in Suwan?
Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch has a separate area for waiting or lingering after your meal~ I'll introduce what you can enjoy there at the end!
There's plenty of seating, so it's perfect for booking ahead for a Suwan-district gathering or group dinner~ It has such a warm, traditional Korean vibe that I keep finding myself coming back:)
You can even watch baseball, there are baby chairs ready to go, and the restrooms are kept clean and separated by gender. Just perfect!
Each table came fully set with a bone bucket, small plates, cups, utensils, napkins, and wet wipes! Really tidy and I love that about this place~!

New Sammi Bossam and the takeout discount
They've got a new limited menu item: Sammi Bossam, with pork belly, pork jowl, and skirt meat~! It's limited quantities, so I'll need to rush over if I want to try it~!

They also give you a discount if you order takeout~

What comes with the 58,000-won Friend Set-Half & Half
What we ordered that day was Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch's Friend Set-Half & Half for ₩58,000. It comes with half-and-half jjokbal (charcoal-grilled jjokbal, fire-grilled spicy jjokbal), makguksu, and a drink, and alcohol was ₩5,000 extra.
- Friend Set-Half & Half ₩58,000 (Half & Half Jjokbal — charcoal-grilled jjokbal, fire-grilled spicy jjokbal + makguksu + drink)
- Alcohol ₩5,000

Base table: sundubu jjigae and steamed egg
The basic side dishes came out first! Sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew), vegetables, salad, pickled radish, radish kimchi, sauces, and even steamed egg!
They give you an egg to add to the sundubu jjigae yourself! You just crack it in once it's boiling! Enoki mushrooms, soft tofu, and egg all together — it's seriously amazing~

One bite in and it's a total drinking-food classic!!

Charcoal-grilled jokbal with makguksu noodles
The jjokbal and makguksu have arrived! Visually just amazing~! The makguksu was mixed up nicely and ready to go~ Even the smell was tangy-spicy insanity, ㅠㅠ
First I soothed my stomach with the steamed egg~! Now, shall we dig into the jjokbal?! You have to eat it with the makguksu first~ because in my opinion, they're the perfect match!!

Wrapped in a lettuce leaf, it's honestly so good ㅠㅠ Such a perfect match with the makguksu too! This jjokbal isn't greasy at all, so it's really delicious~

No matter what anyone says, I think the meat right on the bone is the tastiest part! I asked for disposable gloves and dug right in!
How to eat the fire-grilled spicy jokbal if you can't take heat
As a certified spice wimp, I wrap this fire jjokbal in salad leaves! Wrapping it is delicious, but it's also perfect for putting out the fire mid-bite when it gets too spicy~ I'm inhaling it right now...

With the fire jjokbal too, the meat right on the bone is the tastiest! It's genuinely deliciously spicy, and even while it's making me sweat a little, my hand keeps reaching for more, haha. I'm so happy right now~!

When there's too much to finish, they'll box it up for you like this! We took ours home and thoroughly enjoyed it again the next day~!
Starbucks coffee and ice cream after dinner
There was even deodorizer set out, and candy too~! They say touching it brings good fortune, so of course I touched it on my way out, haha.

The coffee is made with Starbucks beans, so it felt really nice and upscale~ There are iced cups ready too, plus ice cream, so it's perfect for a takeout coffee and ice cream after the meal! Even the cones are delicious, so it's just great~!
That was Kkankkan Jjokbal Suwan Branch, a Suwan-district favorite with a set menu that offers such great value~
