Word got around that a famous stone-plate nurungji jjamppong spot had landed in Paju, so off I went to Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch! Here's my honest review~~

Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch: hours and parking
Dolpanseok Paju Simhaksan Branch is open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with last order at 20:00, and closed every Tuesday. There's a break time on weekends from 16:00 to 17:00, and parking is available.

You can park in Dolpanseok's dedicated lot. The main menu banners out front alone made my mouth water~

A spacious, clean interior. The tables are set far apart and tidy, so it works well solo, on a date, with family, or for a group dinner.

Dolpanseok is apparently already a well-known local favorite in Busan, Miryang, and Ulsan, and has appeared on several TV shows. No need to travel far anymore now that it's close by in Paju~ I'm so lucky.

Self-serve bar: green onion kimchi and unlimited rice
At Dolpanseok Paju Simhaksan Branch you help yourself to pickled radish, raw onion, black bean sauce, and green onion kimchi, and rice refills are actually unlimited!! It's unusual for a Chinese restaurant to have green onion kimchi haha🥬

They also have a baby chair, so it's good to bring along little ones.

Rice crackers and yogurt for dessert, plus even a microwave for baby food. You can really feel how thoughtful the owner is about the little details.

There's also a perk at The Milfong bakery café across the street — bring your same-day Dolpanseok receipt and get 10% off all drinks.

What we ordered at Dolpanseok Jjamppong and what it cost
Dolpanseok has the usual Chinese menu items too, but the standout is jajangmyeon and jjamppong served on a stone plate. And instead of the usual tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork), they have chicken bites and fried pork cutlet!
Nurungji stone-plate white jjamppong medium (2 people) + whole squid add-on / mini pork-chicken set 29,000+5,000+15,000 = ₩49,000

There's also a handmade ade event if you write a Naver receipt review. Definitely worth joining in on!

How does the nurungji stone-plate white jjamppong taste?
Our main dish finally arrived — the nurungji stone-plate white jjamppong, with an incredible look!! There's seafood and noodles layered under the bean sprouts, so stir it gently to avoid overflow.

What makes Dolpanseok's white jjamppong special is the first stage — a rich, soupy jjamppong flavor. It tasted like oyster sauce, almost like a stir-fried oyster jjamppong!
The second stage is the stir-fried jjamppong flavor mixed with the crunch of bean sprouts. It even had a slight pho-like feel.
The last stage comes when the nurungji (scorched rice), soaked in the broth, is added — finishing with a nutty, deep flavor that's really special. I loved being able to finish both the noodles and the rice.
As time passes on the hot stone plate, the jjamppong's flavor gets more savory and deep. The added whole squid was also very tender and plump.

Mini don-chi soup: pork cutlet and sweet chicken bites in one
Next came the mini pork-chicken set. It's a dish where you get to enjoy both crispy pork cutlet and sweet chicken bites.

There's a lemon on top, so squeezing it over adds an extra fresh kick. The sweet and tangy sauce that came with it was a perfect match for dipping the pork cutlet!

Spice levels at Dolpanseok Jjamppong: how mild is mild?
Dolpanseok lets you adjust the spice level. I chose the mild option for the white jjamppong and it wasn't as spicy as I expected, so it was even more delicious paired with the green onion kimchi. Whenever I craved kimchi mid-meal, I'd take a bite of the green onion kimchi~ Next time I'll try it spicier!
Is Dolpanseok Jjamppong in Paju worth a visit?
This was my first time trying stone-plate jjamppong, and it was a totally different flavor from the usual jjamppong and jajangmyeon. Dolpanseok is a Paju Simhaksan favorite that anyone, of any age, can enjoy without complaint. Parking, cleanliness, and rich broth flavor — nothing's missing, an all-rounder of a restaurant. If you haven't tried stone-plate jjamppong yet, head over to Dolpanseok Jjamppong Paju Simhaksan Branch soon~!
