Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap in Paju! I got hungry after walking the Simhaksan trail and went looking for a nearby restaurant, which is how I ended up here. Here's my review of this Simhaksan restaurant where the whole family can eat well — both value and taste covered.
How close is Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap to the Dulle-gil trail? Exterior and parking
I parked at the Simhaksan Park public parking lot and walked the Simhaksan trail, and the restaurant turned out to be just 4 minutes away by car from that lot! There's also parking at the restaurant itself, so you don't need to worry about where to park.
Inside Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap: the dining room and group tables
There were autographs from celebrities on the wall! It's such a well-known Simhaksan restaurant that even though I came on a weekday during a late lunch hour, the place was completely packed.
The restaurant was really big and spacious. There's group seating for 6–8 people too, so it's great for family gatherings! A Simhaksan restaurant I'd love to bring my parents to.
Menu prices: deuljeongsik 20,000 won, kkotjeongsik 26,000 won
Deuljeongsik is ₩20,000 per person, kkotjeongsik is ₩26,000 per person. The difference between the two sets is whether atka mackerel and mackerel are included! Grilled mackerel or grilled atka mackerel can also be added à la carte, and there's a potato pancake too. There's even a kids menu with Spam egg rice, so it's a great restaurant to bring children to! Gangdoenjang and the stew are also refillable. We ordered the deuljeongsik set for two.
The self-serve ssam vegetable bar: unlimited greens, only the ones you like
You can help yourself to unlimited wrap vegetables at the self-serve bar! Usually at ssambap restaurants I get a huge pile of leaves I don't even eat, and the overly bitter ones aren't really my style either, so it felt like a hassle. But at Deulkkot Ssambap I could just scoop up as much as I wanted of the ones I actually like — so good!!!
Besides the wrap greens, all the side dishes are self-refillable too.
Vegetables piled up exactly to my taste!
What comes with the deuljeongsik set, from doenjang stew to pumpkin porridge
A spicy doenjang (soybean paste) stew comes out too — it had a nutty, comforting charm.
And this stew is refillable too!
Salad, stir-fried kimchi, zucchini, gangdoenjang and more — the side dishes come out generously. The seasoning isn't too strong, just subtly delicious, so I think even older folks would enjoy it.
Pumpkin porridge comes out as an appetizer! Sweet and warm — perfect for an empty stomach.
Stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid on one hot plate
Stir-fried pork and stir-fried squid come out together! Served in one dish like this, you can eat them separately by preference or mix them together!
The combo of sweet stir-fried pork and deliciously spicy stir-fried squid was so good! The pork had real smoky char flavor too — the piece I happened to pick up was small, but the meat pieces were genuinely huge, big enough you'd need to cut them!!!
The squid was so plump I thought it was rice cake at first, but it was all squid!? Not chewy at all, and the texture was fantastic.
Stone-pot rice and sungnyung (scorched-rice tea)
Can't skip the stone-pot rice!~! Truly sticky, delicious white rice, ugh. This place is a rice destination too.
And finishing with sungnyung (scorched-rice tea) as a Korean dessert makes for the perfect meal! Even the crispy scorched rice was delicious, come on. Eating this, I kept thinking I'd love to bring my parents here — such a great Simhaksan restaurant.
Free ice cream cone and the receipt-review lottery ticket
But that's not even the end! You also get an ice cream cone for dessert. Absolutely wild. The kids who came with families were practically vibrating waiting for their ice cream, haha. The parents were stacking it two scoops high too! You can choose between chocolate and strawberry (or stack both, haha). Leave a receipt review and they even give you a ₩1,000 scratch lottery ticket — kind of fun to scratch it off too!!!
Super convenient since it's right near Simhaksan, the staff were all kind, and the ssambap spread and flavor were both excellent — that was my review of Simhaksan Deulkkot Ssambap.
