Where is Eungkeum Tteokbokki Yeonnam Branch, and how far from Hongik Univ. Station?

👉 Subway: I went to Eungkeum Tteokbokki, a tteokbokki spot in Yeonnam-dong that's a 10-minute walk from Exit 3 of Hongik Univ. Station

It's quite a distance from the subway station, but the restaurant is on the main road rather than tucked in an alley, and it's so bright red that it was pretty easy to spot. haha

A tteokbokki restaurant in Yeonnam-dong that feels like a bar

The inside of Eungkeum Tteokbokki felt so retro and hip that I thought it might sell tacos or be some fusion bar, but no, it's a tteokbokki place lol

It has that Yeonnam-dong bar vibe where you just want a beer, but it also sells all kinds of coffee, ade, soju, and draft beer like a café, so it seemed like a good spot for a light drink too

Besides the obvious tteok-twi-sun, this Yeonnam-dong tteokbokki place also sold gimbap, fried chicken, udon, fried rice, and other anju (drinking snacks)

What comes in the ₩30,900 tteok-twi-sun, gimbap and two-drink set

We came for lunch and picked the set with tteok-twi-sun, gimbap, and simple drinks. Since we had plans afterward and it was lunchtime, we went with drinks instead of alcohol — most drinks came with almost no extra charge, and ordering as a set felt cheap. They also came sealed up like cans, which was unusual and looked pretty cool. haha

I think I ordered the sundae (Korean blood sausage) with organs included, but I must have pressed the wrong button. T_T

There were no organs at all, so that was a little disappointing, but it was our own ordering mistake ㅠ

Most bunsik (Korean snack food) spots in Yeonnam-dong are tteokbokki places, and they tend to be fairly clean overall — Eungkeum Tteokbokki was the same

We ordered the set with tteokbokki, sundae, fried snacks, mini gimbap, and drinks

Vegetable mini gimbap: why the ₩6,000 price makes sense

The mini gimbap... I picked vegetable, and it wasn't like Chungmu gimbap at all — it really felt like a mini version of regular gimbap lol. There were a lot of gimbap varieties, and we ordered the most basic one, which was roughly ₩6,000-something. At first I thought that was a bit pricey, but once I saw how it looked, it made sense. haha

With so many ingredients packed in, it felt more filling somehow? lol It's really mini gimbap, so I got full pretty fast after eating it. haha I love rice so much lol, I debated between fried rice and gimbap, but gimbap is easier to share, so I think I picked well. haha

Wheat rice cake soup tteokbokki: keep the induction on low

The tteokbokki and fried snacks came out after, and there was even a rosé option along with adjustable spice levels, so it was easy to eat to your own taste

You can choose wheat or rice rice cakes for the tteokbokki — we went with wheat. They start it off on high heat, but since it's a soup-style tteokbokki, if you don't keep stirring it, the broth can burn and reduce quickly. So if you're not eating right away, or if you're like us and wait to eat it together with the fried snacks once they arrive, definitely switch it to low heat. We didn't even realize it was burning — it reduced and scorched faster than expected T_T (The staff were kind, and burning it was totally our fault!)

The drinks: lemon sparkling water and strawberry ade

For drinks, the coffee menu was mostly iced americano, and the ade selection was just as varied as a café — strawberry, blueberry, fresh grapefruit, apple mango, and more

I chose lemon sparkling water and my companion went with strawberry ade. I often drink it at home as a detox drink, so it felt familiar — clean and nice for me, though it's not very sweet, so it might not be for everyone. Worth keeping in mind. haha

The fried snacks came out last, and after waiting quite a while with no sign of them, I asked if maybe our order had been missed — turns out frying them just takes a bit of time. (If you want to eat them together with the tteokbokki, I'd recommend switching the tteokbokki heat to low only after the fried snacks arrive. That way you can enjoy both while they're still warm. haha)

Is Eungkeum Tteokbokki good for eating or drinking alone?

We were so busy taking photos and chatting that the tteokbokki reduced down lol, but it was still delicious, and eating this much variety for about 30,000 won felt like such a good deal — a great spot for when your wallet's light, and especially good for value solo dining or solo drinking. haha (There were two solo diners there while we were eating too. haha)
