If I had to pick just one jjamppong place in Dongtan, it would be Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong, hands down. There's a big parking lot right out front so I never worry about parking, and the dining hall is spacious with good table turnover. You can get seated and eating in no time!!!

Why Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong at Dongtan Namgwangjang is my top pick
I hadn't been in a while, so I came back to this Dongtan jjamppong spot, and it was busy as ever. I used to come here often back when it first opened, but now it's become one of the most famous jjamppong restaurants in Dongtan. After enjoying the cockle jjamppong here, I ordered it elsewhere too, but the clams weren't properly de-sanded and tasted off — probably frozen clams — so it kept getting compared, unfavorably, to Bultina here in Dongtan.

I brought a relative visiting from out of town who loves spicy food, and they went back home raving about how delicious it was. It seems perfect for curing a hangover, and the kind of flavor that instantly melts away stress when you're feeling frazzled — I highly recommend it. I'd say there's no one who's never been here, but no one who's only been once, either??? I think anyone who's visited probably feels the same way I do.

There's plenty of vegetables in there too — onion, cabbage, green onion, carrot, and more — so one bowl of jjamppong fills you right up. And the onion you get at Chinese restaurants, dipped lightly in black bean paste, is somehow so delicious on its own. A must-wait-in-line kind of place? I figured it would have calmed down by now since it's been a while since opening, but customers kept coming and coming in, however they found out about it.

Can you eat alone? Bar tables at this Dongtan Chinese restaurant
Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch has bar table seating, so going for a solo bowl of jjamppong doesn't feel awkward at all. I'm good at eating alone, so I'll definitely come back here whenever I want to dine solo near Namgwangjang. I've also come with my husband and baby, and with my mom when she was craving something spicy — she finished the whole bowl!!!!! This is a place I'd recommend to anyone around me, since everyone I've brought here has enjoyed it — Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong, Dongtan's go-to jjamppong spot.

CatchTable waiting, adding rice and choosing a spice level
When it's busy, you can join the wait via the CatchTable kiosk at the entrance. You don't need to order jjamppong rice separately — just add rice to your cockle jjamppong and mix it into the broth at the end, and that's your jjamppong rice right there. The portions are really generous, so keep that in mind when ordering side dishes. You can also adjust the spice level, but lately I've been ditching my spice bravado for the sake of my health and going with the base flavor.

If you want extra pickled radish and onion, use the self-serve corner — it's near the entrance. I ordered the base spice level, and the hearty, spicy flavor was excellent. Even my husband, who can't handle much spice, ate it happily, and I shared some too and enjoyed every bite. The cockle jjamppong is the top pick menu item here!!

Is Bultina good with kids? The children's jajangmyeon
I ordered the children's jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) before, and all the vegetables and meat came finely chopped. It's genuinely easy to feed to a baby, and the adults enjoyed it too — a happy meal all around.

When my baby gets a bit older, I bet the day will come when we can share a bowl of jjamppong together?? Time really does fly. I hope to live a life that appreciates the present within that passing time and makes the most of it. It was a great meal. I might just end up coming back again this week when I get a craving for that fiery jjamppong flavor.

Parking at Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong
For anyone visiting this popular Dongtan jjamppong spot, note that parking is free on public holidays via the Dongtan Multicultural Center.

Jjamppong originated from Chinese cuisine, but it's been made into a distinctly Korean dish.

Strong wok flavor, a hearty spicy broth, a variety of seafood and vegetables — perfect for a hangover! Perfect for a meal! Especially for people like me who love a spicy broth, jjamppong might just be a dish you could eat every single day and never get tired of.

Thanks for the meal.
