Dongtan Chinese restaurant tangsuyuk takeout, still crispy: Bultina

In short

Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a Chinese restaurant specialising in cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) at Namgwangjang in Dongtan, Hwaseong. For lunch the writer ordered the Bultina cockle jjamppong and a small crispy tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork); the portions were generous enough that the leftover tangsuyuk was packed to go, and it stayed crisp with no gamey smell even after cooling down at home. With its deep smoky broth and plump cockles, Bultina was a lunch worth a 200% return visit.

How did the Bultina cockle jjamppong taste?

After a short wait, our order arrived, and the moment it hit the table I let out an involuntary gasp — it looked that good. I couldn't help but snap photos before even picking up my chopsticks. First I tried the restaurant's signature dish, the cockle jjamppong. The bowl was piled generously with fresh, plump cockles, and just looking at it made me happy.

Taking a big first sip of the broth, a rich yet sharp smoky flavor wrapped around my mouth with real weight.

The refreshing edge of seafood and the deep richness of the meat stock came together perfectly, and I immediately understood why everyone said this was THE place for jjamppong in Dongtan. Picking out the chewy cockles one by one was its own little pleasure, and the noodles had soaked up the broth so deeply that they stayed springy and never went soft, right up to the last bite. It's a satisfying, stress-melting spicy flavor, perfect as a hangover cure too — jjamppong lovers won't be able to resist it.

How was the small crispy tangsuyuk?

The tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) we ordered alongside, in the small size, was also better than expected. Fresh out of the fryer and still steaming, it had a golden color that suggested clean oil, and it looked crispy just from the sight of it.

Biting in, it was the textbook definition of crispy outside, juicy inside — the meat pieces themselves were thick, giving it a really satisfying chew.

Dipped into the sweet-and-sour sauce, it paired perfectly with the spicy, sweet-and-salty cockle jjamppong — the two dishes were a genuinely perfect match.

Leftover tangsuyuk packed to go: still crispy after cooling

The cockle jjamppong portion was already generous, and the small tangsuyuk turned out to be fairly sizeable too, so in the end some tangsuyuk was left over.

It tasted too good to leave behind, so I asked them to pack it carefully and brought it home. Even after it had cooled, there was no gamey meat smell at all and the crispiness held up perfectly — I ended up enjoying it happily as an evening snack.
