Is a reservation needed on a weekday evening?

We reserved a weekday evening slot at 6:30 pm and were seated right away. There were no other customers when we arrived, but the place filled up completely within an hour, so it's clearly popular — I'd recommend booking ahead!

The restroom is inside the restaurant and kept spotless, and I was impressed by the thoughtful touches outside it — deodorizer, hand cream, hair ties, even cotton swabs!

Tasting notes on every dish in Set 2

Char siu fried rice: why the 1,000 won upgrade is worth it

Char siu fried rice topped with two pieces of char siu
Close-up of the fluffy char siu fried rice

I strongly recommend paying the extra ₩1,000 to upgrade to char siu fried rice! With the upgrade, two whole hunks of char siu land on top, and the moment it arrived I knew the upgrade was worth it. The fried rice itself has nicely separated, fluffy grains with plenty of flavor, and the char siu is tender with a rich soy glaze that gives a sweet, salty burst with every bite.

Scoop some fried rice onto your small plate, top it with a little mapo tofu, and eat them together — the savory fried rice plus the spicy kick of mapo tofu is genuinely delicious. Definitely try this combo!

Mapo tofu: numbing even without the mala upgrade

Mapo tofu with a rich doubanjiang sauce

We didn't order the mala upgrade, but this mapo tofu still had a pleasant numbing kick. The doubanjiang and huajiao (Sichuan peppercorn) bring a nicely tingling flavor that keeps you reaching for more.

Mapo tofu spooned onto a small plate

The tofu is warm and softly cooked, with a generous amount of meat, so it works well as both a meal and a drinking snack. As mentioned, spooning it over the fried rice is the hidden trick for this dish!

Yaki gyoza

A plate of golden-fried yaki gyoza

Crispy pan-fried dumplings. The outside is browned and crispy, while the inside is packed full of meat and vegetable filling.

Yaki gyoza being dipped in sauce

The contrast between the thin wrapper and crispy bottom is great, and the filling is flavorful enough to eat plain or dip in ponzu or soy sauce. Yaki gyoza with draft beer is truly a classic pairing.

Tomato tsukemono

A plate of refreshing tomato tsukemono

Tsukemono is a Japanese-style pickled side dish! This one is pickled tomato — refreshing, sweet tomato with the umami of pickling added in, and it's great for resetting your palate between bites of the heavier fried rice or mapo tofu. It plays a real role in cutting through the greasier dishes.

Lemon draft beer: stir it before you drink

A glass of lemon draft beer with lemon syrup settled at the bottom

💡 Tip: Don't drink it right away — stir it well first!

The lemon syrup sinks to the bottom of the glass, so if you don't stir it, at first it just tastes like plain beer... haha. Once mixed well, a refreshing lemon aroma spreads gently through the draft beer and it tastes so much better!

What was good and what fell short at Lucky Dragon JCB

  • ✔️ A Chinese-style machizuka concept that sets it apart from a typical izakaya
  • ✔️ A well-paired set menu combo of fried rice and mapo tofu
  • ✔️ Thoughtful touches outside the restroom — deodorizer, hand cream, hair ties, cotton swabs
  • ✔️ 4-person tables plus group seating that accommodate different party sizes
  • 😅 Walking in without a reservation can mean a wait!

Final verdict: is Lucky Dragon JCB Sindang worth a date night?

If you're looking for a different kind of drinking spot near Sindang Station, I'd recommend Lucky Dragon JCB. The unique Chinese-style izakaya concept gives you an experience that's different from a typical izakaya. The combo of char siu fried rice topped with mapo tofu is the kind of thing I'd order again on a repeat visit!
