Butter garlic beef on tabletop grills at Yugi, a Cheongju grill house

In short

Yugi Dongnam District Main Branch is a beef grill house in the Dongnam District of Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, where every table gets its own charcoal brazier for grilling. The writer ordered the 500g whole rib finger platter, half plain and half marinated, served with salt, wasabi and whole-grain mustard, and found the garlic grilled in butter the best part of the meal. Ventilation at Yugi is strong enough that clothes don't hold the smoke, making it an easy choice for a family meal or an evening get-together.

I was looking for a place to have dinner in the Dongnam District of Cheongju and ended up at Yugi Dongnam District Main Branch.

What kind of grill house is Yugi Dongnam District Main Branch?

Yugi Dongnam District Main Branch has an individual charcoal grill set up at every table, so you grill the meat yourself. When picking a Korean BBQ spot, taste matters, but so does a clean vibe and a comfortable dining environment — and this place did well on that front too.

🥩 Ordering the 500g whole rib finger, half plain and half marinated

What we ordered that day was the 500g whole rib finger platter.

500g whole rib finger platter, half plain and half marinated

Instead of sticking to one flavor, we ordered it half plain and half marinated rib finger. It's the whole rib finger cut from the beef short rib, trimmed as one piece, so it had a nicely chewy texture, and the more you chewed, the more juice and flavor came through. The plain rib finger was great for enjoying the clean flavor of the beef itself, while the marinated version had a sweet marinade that made for a nice change of pace.

Alternating between the two meant I didn't get tired of it even after finishing the whole platter.

🔥 Grilling your own beef on a tabletop charcoal brazier

One of the things that stands out about Yugi Dongnam District Main Branch is that every table gets its own individual grill. Cooking just as much as you're about to eat meant the meat stayed warm, instead of grilling a big batch and letting it cool down.

There were also several dipping options ready to go — salt, wasabi, whole-grain mustard — so it was fun trying different combinations with each piece.

Salt, wasabi, and whole-grain mustard dips

I liked the plain, clean taste of dipping it in salt, but the combo with a little wasabi was also delicious.

🧄 Garlic grilled in butter is the standout at Yugi

And the combination I remember most from that day was the garlic grilled in butter.

Golden, well-cooked butter garlic

Grilling butter and garlic together on the charcoal grill toned down garlic's usual sharp bite and brought out a nutty, sweet flavor instead.

Eating the well-cooked garlic together with the meat paired really well with the beef's rich flavor.

When you're eating meat here, I really recommend trying the butter garlic together with it. ❤

Personally, out of everything I ate that day, this combo was the most satisfying part.

🥗 Free minari beef tartare and cheonggukjang with the platter

If you order the whole rib finger, minari (water dropwort) beef tartare and cheonggukjang (fermented soybean stew) come out as free sides.

Eating the minari beef tartare between bites of meat added a lovely fragrant touch.

A full spread of meat, cheonggukjang, and rice

It also felt like it cut through the richness that can build up from eating meat nonstop, so it was nice to have in between. The cheonggukjang came out warm, and it was great for eating with rice alongside the meat.

The basic side dishes were clean and well put together overall, and any extra side dishes or veggies you need can just be picked up from the self-serve bar.

🌿 Little smoke smell, so it works for dates and group dinners

At Korean BBQ places, your clothes often end up smelling like smoke afterward. But Yugi Dongnam District Main Branch has good ventilation, so the smell didn't linger badly even after the meal.

The restaurant itself felt clean and pleasant overall, rather than having that worn-in, smoky Korean BBQ feel. So it seemed like a good option not just for a family meal but also for a date or an evening get-together in Cheongju's Dongnam District.

📌 What to know before visiting Yugi in Cheongju

They mentioned that waits can happen during busy times like weekend evenings. If you're planning to visit during peak hours, it might help to build in some extra time or check in advance whether reservations are possible.

The noise level wasn't too loud for chatting while eating, so it was a comfortable place for a relaxed meal.

📝 Final verdict on this Cheongju Dongnam District grill house

This time we ordered it half plain and half marinated rib finger. Alternating between the clean-tasting plain rib finger and the sweet marinated rib finger let us enjoy a variety of flavors. On top of that, minari beef tartare and cheonggukjang came free, and we could add veggies and side dishes from the self-serve bar, which made the meal feel really filling. Above all, I loved the clean restaurant atmosphere and the individual grills that let you eat the meat fresh off the fire.

If you're looking for charcoal-grilled beef in Cheongju's Dongnam District, Yugi Dongnam District Main Branch and their half-and-half whole rib finger might be worth trying. ❤
