Cheongju noodle restaurant for mala ramen and butadon: Myeonsikdang
In short
Myeonsikdang Jiwel City is a Japanese noodle restaurant in Cheongju, Chungbuk. I paired cold pan momil and spicy mala ramen with mini butadon and two pieces of cheese tonkatsu; the soft noodles and ramen-soaked rice stood out. Verdict: a great place to try several dishes at once.

Myeonsikdang Jiwel City location and hours
I stopped by Cheongju for a quick meal after a long time away, and visited Myeonsikdang, a restaurant famous in Cheongju's Jiwel City!
Myeonsikdang Jiwel City (면식당 지웰시티점)
This is Myeonsikdang Jiwel City in Cheongju. It opens at 10:30 a.m., and since last orders are at 8:50 p.m., it closes at 9:30 p.m. Make sure to arrive on time :)

You can park underground, then find it on the first floor of Jiwel City Mall. It is in the plaza-corner area! It is also a famous restaurant that appeared on Lee Chang-sub's Jeongwaja!!

A packed dinner crowd and reservation tip
We arrived right at dinner time and it was nearly full, so I could only take interior photos around last order after everyone had finished and left! There are mainly tables for four, with tables for two by the windows and seats for solo diners too.
Here is a handy tip!! Reservations are available except during the peak 12–1 p.m. hour, and if you reserve ahead through Naver, you get an ade for two to three people. If you can make a reservation, I definitely recommend it!!!
Myeonsikdang's extensive menu and review event
Here is Myeonsikdang's menu. There were more choices than I expected, so choosing was difficult. The set menus were well put together, but I cannot say they made ordering any easier... because there were seriously, seriously so many different options!

Post a review on Naver or Instagram and you get a complimentary drink, and meal vouchers are given away by drawing every Monday, so make sure to join the review event too! You can choose Zero Coke, Coke, or Sprite.

After very carefully(?) choosing what we wanted to eat and ordering, we looked at the cute figurines on the windowsill~ and the food arrived quickly.

Pan momil, mala ramen, and half-size sides
We ordered four things: pan momil (cold buckwheat noodles), mala ramen, mini butadon (pork rice bowl), and two pieces of cheese tonkatsu as a side! We wanted both butadon and cheese katsu, but thought we would not finish them as full mains, so these thoughtful sides were just perfect!

Soft buckwheat noodles and warming mala ramen
My beloved pan momil came with plenty of buckwheat noodles too! As someone whose favorite noodle might be buckwheat noodles.... They look pretty when neatly arranged, but noodles that have loosened like this are really soft and delicious. Some places have pretty-looking noodles but a disappointing texture... and since this place is called Myeonsikdang, the noodles have to be good!

I was curious about the regular ramen too, but I was craving something a little spicy today, so I ordered the mala ramen. I absolutely loved its warming spicy broth! It was the kind of flavor that made me curious about the regular ramen too..! The momil came with cold broth full of tiny ice crystals too... approved!
The noodles separated nicely and had less of buckwheat's distinctive aroma, so Myeonsikdang's pan momil would be a flavor that people of all ages could enjoy without strong likes or dislikes!!

How did we eat the mini butadon and cheese tonkatsu?
And the side-menu lineup was amazing: the mini butadon and cheese tonkatsu felt exactly like half-size versions of the full dishes. Less quantity, same flavor!! It is such a great setup for people like me who like trying a little bit of lots of different things :)
I do not know why my expression in the thumbnail looks so sad, but maybe... my serious-eating brow was activated. If you watch the video, the cheese in the cheese tonkatsu stretches unbelievably well, hehe.

Under the butadon was rice deliciously soaked with sauce..! It was really good eaten just as it was, but dipping it in the ramen broth made it incredible..! You have to try it that way!

After such an incredibly delicious meal, you register your parking yourself before leaving! With so many delicious items, Myeonsikdang is somewhere I want to return to next time and try every other menu at my own expense. What a satisfying meal!!
