Deungdae Gotgan is a Korean restaurant in Yeongrang-dong, Sokcho, overlooking Deungdae Beach. We had two servings of jjageul nakji with udon noodles, enjoying the springy octopus, pleasantly spicy sauce, and seasoned bean sprouts. Verdict: a great pick for a meal with an ocean view.
Samsami-ne Gyeongpodae Main Branch is a sashimi restaurant in Gangneung, Gangwon, where you can pick up sashimi and mulhoe. We took its ₩70,000 value assorted sashimi back to the Saint John’s Hotel for a relaxed dinner with our dog, Haengun, and loved the red sea bream yubiki, individual settings, and mulhoe. A wonderful choice for an easy hotel-room sashimi feast.

We ordered the large aged kimchi pork bone braise and fried rice in the leftover sauce, loving the tender meat, deeply fermented kimchi, and generous ingredients. Verdict: a hearty, happy meal for the whole table.

I enjoyed homemade patbingsu with house-boiled red beans and mill-fresh misutgaru, plus an iced Americano, with Haengun. Coffee Dripper was a delightful start to our trip.

My family shared ₩30,000 buckwheat-sprout boiled pork, ₩25,000 beef yukhoe, buckwheat pancake, Migamyeon, and spicy mixed noodles. Verdict: a wonderful family lunch for a proper taste of Bongpyeong buckwheat.
