Sokcho market café handmade grain snack gift set: Ibuja Mayak Gotgan

In short

Ibuja Mayak Gotgan is a handmade grain gangjeong shop inside Sokcho Tourist & Fishery Market in Sokcho, Gangwon. I sampled five grains and packed an 8-piece assortment for my parents and for home. Verdict: the sweet yellow rice and nutty, crunchy buckwheat were my favorites!

Handmade grain gangjeong found inside Sokcho Central Market

A Sokcho trip with oppa wouldn’t be complete without Central Market—it’d be such a shameee~~ There was so much food my eyes were spinning, but I found handmade gangjeong (Korean puffed-grain confection) that makes a great healthy late-night snack, so I packed some up properly!

Ibuja Mayak Gotgan (이부자마약곳간) is tucked inside Central Market, so you’ll spot it while walking around and checking everything out! There’s public parking too, just so you know! Haha

This is the exterior of Ibuja Mayak Gotgan that I came across while walking! Since they make the gangjeong themselves fresh each day, I could enjoy it with even more confidence!

Sampling and choosing five kinds of grain gangjeong

The price list showed that they sell them in sets by quantity, and the prices were good, so they’d make great gifts too! Thinking of my parents, I got one more bag~!

They were running a review event too, so join in and get a freebie! One complimentary gangjeong? I can’t resisttt~~

The handmade gangjeong was displayed so neatly, with five varieties: brown rice, buckwheat, white rice, black rice, and yellow rice! You can choose whichever you want, and they were seriously huge, so such great value too! Haha

Best of all, there were samples, so it was great to try each one and choose to suit my taste! With so many grains, there were lots of flavors too. It was fascinating how every single one tasted different! I packed a good mix of every variety, haha.

An 8-piece set shared as a gift for my parents

We opened the gift at my parents’ house, but why does Jaeni look more excited...? It’s not for you to covet.... haha hahaha

I brought the same handmade gangjeong for everyone so there’d be no fighting with Mom! I bought the 8-piece set. It was nice because we could still try a variety!

What’s the best way to warm up grain gangjeong?

How to enjoy it even more deliciously! Depending on the weather and humidity, it can get hard or soft, so warm it in the microwave and let it cool for a crisp outside and chewy inside! Or toast it in a frying pan, nurungji-style (like scorched rice)!!

After tossing one bag to Mom, I got home and was ready to warm mine up properly too! Buckwheat and yellow rice, things you can’t leave out when you think of Gangwon-do!! I just had mine as-is for convenience~! Haha, because I wanted to eat it so badly.... hehehe

Sweet yellow-rice handmade gangjeong

Personally, I love puffed rice? Fried rice puffs, and this was sweet too!?!? Absolutely impossible to resist!!!!! It was completely my thing, hehe.

Nutty, super-crunchy buckwheat handmade gangjeong

It had an even stronger nutty, crispy texture! That super-crunchy feeling!!!! The flavor really lets you taste the buckwheat directly, with a healthy feeling as a bonus! Haha
