The writer reserved a 20-piece gift set for 22,000 won with five flavors — tangerine, soybean powder, black sesame, red bean, and nuts — and compared favorites with her mom. Great value, gorgeous packaging, and a satisfying gift for parents.
Cheongchuni Oranda Dongmun Market Main Branch Tapdong is a souvenir shop in Jeju's Dongmun Market where you can pick oranda (puffed grain snack) and traditional Jeju gwajul (crisp honey cracker) by flavor. Buying gamtae, nut, and yuzu oranda plus a mixed-flavor gwajul bag, the oranda came out soft and slightly moist while the gwajul stayed crisp even a day later. Mom picked oranda, Dad picked gwajul — buying both was the right call.
Gluttony Coffee is a locals' favorite café on Gunam-ro 2-gil in Jeju City, an easy stop on the way to or from Jeju Airport. Visiting with his parents, the writer ordered an americano, a café latte, and a cream latte with financiers and mango cake, and waited about 10 minutes for a table because Gluttony Coffee was full. Neither the coffee nor the desserts were overly sweet, and a nearby free public parking lot makes Gluttony Coffee an easy stop for travelers driving around Jeju.
Dolgyeok Hanwoo is a 1++ hanwoo (Korean beef) grill restaurant in Yeondong, Jeju City. On day four of a Jeju trip spent eating nothing but black pork, the writer stopped in for two servings of hanwoo special cuts and one serving of manong (garlic) galbisal, then added hanwoo garlic yukhoe (raw beef) with gamtae seaweed at her husband's insistence. Between the five dipping sauces and unlimited refills of 1++ brisket miyeokguk, Dolgyeok Hanwoo was the most memorable restaurant of the whole trip.
Today Jeju Shilla Duty Free Shop Jeju Branch is a Jeju dessert and souvenir shop on the first floor of Shilla Duty Free in Yeondong, Jeju City, open daily from 10:00 to 19:00. Inside the orange-toned store, the writer chose a Harubangne 8-piece gift set and two Harubang Sand cookies (Udo peanut and Jeju citrus), then browsed basalt toothbrush holders, mother-of-pearl magnets and acrylic keyrings. Today Jeju is an easy one-stop for gift desserts and Jeju souvenirs together.
Pork80 Jeju Airport Branch is a black pork BBQ restaurant on Noyeon-ro, a main road in Jeju City. On the last evening of a family trip we ordered 600g of raw black pork ribs, which the staff grilled at the table, and ate them with meljeot (fermented anchovy sauce), salt and ssamjang before finishing with bibim guksu (spicy mixed noodles). Even at dinner time there was no wait for a table, and for the portion and the flavour Pork80 felt easy on the wallet — a place worth returning to on the next Jeju trip.
Nopo Dwaeji Aewol is a black pork restaurant near Gwakji Beach in Aewol, Jeju, where staff grill straw-fire seared black pork for you at the table. On day one of a three-day Jeju trip, before snorkeling, the lunch special 3-person set — 600g of thick-cut pork, a stew, and 3 servings of kelp rice — came to 79,000 won. Thanks to the grilling service, it was a hands-free meal even with a child along.
Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch is a gogi-guksu (pork noodle soup) restaurant on Beonyeong-ro in Jocheon-eup, Jeju. Visiting with a baby, the writer had gogi-guksu at 11,000 won, gogi-bibim-guksu (mixed pork noodles) at 10,000 won and abalone porridge at 15,000 won, plus a free baby noodle bowl for children under 36 months, and Myeonjumak also set out a baby chair, baby dishes kept separately in a sterilizer and a phone stand on the table. With a wide parking lot and a roomy dining hall, Myeonjumak Jeju Main Branch is an easy place to eat with a child before heading to the next stop.
Jeju Samchun is a black pork grill restaurant near Hamdeok Beach in Jocheon-eup, Jeju, serving pork aged at low temperature for 300 hours. Visiting with a 13-month-old baby, the writer ordered the Jocha Set for 60,000 won and added steamed egg custard and one serving of pork jowl, and the staff grilled the meat and the baek-kimchi (white kimchi) at the table. The pork was tender and full of juice, making Jeju Samchun her husband's number one pick of the entire Jeju trip.
Jungmun Godeungeo Ssam-bap is a mackerel ssam-bap (wrapped rice) Korean restaurant in Jungmun, Seogwipo, Jeju. The writer ordered the old kimchi mackerel ssam-bap set with abalone hot stone rice, tried the ssam vegetables, pork bulgogi, and japchae from the self-serve bar, and admired the wall covered in celebrity autographs. With easy parking and a generous spread, it made a solid, filling meal during a Jungmun trip.
Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a pork noodle (gogigguksu) restaurant near Aewol Cafe Street and Handam Beach in Jeju. Two diners ordered pork noodles, dongchimi bibim noodles, and mandu (dumplings), leaving only a little noodle behind, and kept coming back to the self-serve bar for kimchi with a strong jeotgal (salted seafood) aroma. With floor-to-ceiling ocean-view seats and 1-hour nearby parking support, it made for an easy Aewol lunch.
