An Aewol restaurant near Gwakji Beach where the staff grill the black pork for you — Nopo Dwaeji.
Why we chose Nopo Dwaeji Aewol, a black pork restaurant near Gwakji Beach
Day one of our four-person family trip to Jeju, three days two nights, and the goal for the day was snorkeling.

But to really enjoy the water, you have to fill up first. On the way down to Panpo Port, near Gwakji Beach, we found Nopo Dwaeji. There's a CU convenience store right next door, handy for dessert after the meal.

They have a baby chair too, so it's fine for families with young kids!

Grilling service: staff cook the black pork at your table

The biggest perk of Nopo Dwaeji is the grilling service: straw-fire seared black pork, grilled right at the table by staff. Going to a barbecue place with a kid is usually chaotic — juggling the child while worrying about burning the meat on the charcoal — but here we didn't have to worry about any of that.
The staff grilled it skillfully, so we just sat and ate — hands completely free. They even cut the meat to kid-sized pieces. For families traveling with children, this is genuinely the best system.

The interior was spotless and well kept. For us, going somewhere clean matters a lot when we have a kid along.

At the self-serve bar corner, you could help yourself to as much kimchi, bean sprouts, scallions, and lettuce wraps as you wanted — very convenient.
The 3-person lunch set at Nopo Dwaeji Aewol: 79,000 won

From 11 to 2, Nopo Dwaeji runs a lunch special with great value on black pork. We ordered the lunch special 3-person set.
What's in the lunch special (served 11:00–14:00)
- 2-person set: 400g pork + choice of stew + 2 kelp rice, ₩55,000
- 3-person set: 600g pork + choice of stew + 3 kelp rice, ₩79,000
- 4-person set: 800g pork + choice of stew + 4 kelp rice, ₩103,000
- Stew choice: Jeju crab doenjang stew or 24-hour aged kimchi stew
À la carte, there was also black pork (neck + belly) 600g for ₩72,000, Jeju skirt meat 200g for ₩24,000, and pork jowl 200g for ₩26,000. They explained that the skirt meat is lower in fat with a stronger flavor, while the jowl has nice marbling, giving it a soft yet slightly chewy texture.
How the straw-fire seared black pork tasted

I'm not sure if it was the quality of the meat itself or the skill of the person grilling it, but the juices burst out from the very first bite. (Probably both, haha.)

The neck and belly meat were grilled to a golden brown over charcoal and cut into just the right pieces, easy to eat, and dipping it in salted anchovy sauce (myeoljeot) was excellent too.

Our kid also happily wrapped the finely cut meat in seaweed and ate it up neatly.
Kelp rice and Jeju crab doenjang stew

After eating our fill of meat, we ordered rice, and instead of plain white rice, kelp rice came out. It had this special savory depth soaked into every grain, so I kept reaching for more with my spoon and ended up finishing the whole bowl.
The crab doenjang stew (soybean paste stew) served alongside had a whole large crab in it, and the broth had a rich, refreshing depth that kept me coming back for more spoonfuls. By the end I was full and my stomach felt comfortable — a perfect meal right before getting in the water.
Is Nopo Dwaeji Aewol worth it with a child?

If you're looking for a place to eat meat with kids near Gwakji Beach, Nopo Dwaeji seems like a solid pick. The grilling service means parents can eat comfortably, the meat's juiciness is excellent, and you finish off well with kelp rice and crab doenjang stew. The grilling service was so convenient that we plan to come back the next time we're in Jeju.
