Jeju rice cake shop for a mother-daughter taste test of 5 flavors

Anyone else struggle with what to bring parents home from a Jeju trip? 👀 On this trip I wanted to get my mom omegi-tteok (rice cake), which she loves, so I looked around for good Jeju omegi-tteok and stopped by Suragan Tteokbang (수라간떡방)!

Omegi-tteok makes a great Jeju souvenir and an easy, no-pressure gift for parents 💛 so I packed some up and brought it home. It's reasonably priced and the taste was just as satisfying — here's my write-up on Suragan Tteokbang, a Jeju omegi-tteok spot I'd recommend ✏️

Suragan Tteokbang is about 10 minutes by car from Jeju Airport, so it's a great last stop on your trip. Since omegi-tteok needs to be kept frozen, I'd recommend picking it up on your last day in Jeju rather than carrying it around during the trip.

Officially there's no parking, but I was able to park briefly in the space in front of the shop for a quick visit.

What kinds of rice cakes are in the shop

As soon as you walk in, you see all sorts of rice cakes on display. Besides omegi-tteok, there's a wide variety of other rice cakes too.

They even had the pumpkin injeolmi (rice cake) that's been trending on SNS!

Pickup vs. shipping — what's the difference

With shipping, dry ice and delivery fees are included, which came out to about ₩5,000 more than pickup packaging. You can also buy individual omegi-tteok for ₩1,000 each, which is great if you just want to taste-test beyond the gift ones 👍🏻

Gift wrapping is available from 5 pieces, and there are return-gift boxes in various sizes, so it's handy for Jeju trip souvenirs or thank-you gifts!

There's also an event where if you buy a 30-piece box of omegi-tteok and write a Naver review, you get 2 extra pieces.

You can also reserve shipping via QR code, so it's convenient to pack the rice cakes you'll eat during the trip yourself and use shipping for the ones you're sending to family or friends!

I reserved and picked up the 20-piece omegi-tteok box. The packaging is so nicely done that it makes a great gift. They recommend freezing the rice cakes as soon as you receive them!

When I opened it up, there were two ice packs inside. I'd brought a cooler bag from home, so I put the box straight in. There's an instruction sheet included too, worth reading.

The five flavors in the 20-piece set

The 20-piece omegi-tteok set has five flavors, four pieces of each.

Every omegi-tteok has red bean in the center. There are no added preservatives, so I could eat them worry-free ☺️

I've always had grandma-level taste when it comes to loving mugwort rice cakes, so the soybean powder omegi-tteok was my favorite. Mugwort-base rice cake + red bean + soybean powder — that combo can't miss.

My mom said the classic is always the best and picked the plain red bean omegi-tteok. Second place was black sesame, she said hahaha. She also said the tangerine omegi-tteok felt special with its tangy flavor. The nut one was basically the soybean-powder omegi-tteok but with nuts instead of soybean powder coating.
