Pet-friendly barbecue restaurant in Suyeong, Busan: Donbaegi Gwang-an

In short

Donbaegi Gwang-an is a pet-friendly barbecue restaurant in Millak-dong, Suyeong, Busan, with private rooms across its second floor. I visited with my husband and baby who was over 100 days old, ordered the 600 Assorted Set, and found the staff grilling service and private room made the meal more relaxed.

I visited Donbaegi Gwang-an (돈베기 광안점) with my husband and our baby, who was over 100 days old. Since giving birth, I had wanted pork but had put off eating out because I was worried about meat smoke. This time, we had a relaxed meal in a private room while a staff member grilled the meat for us.

What were the private rooms like for dining with a dog or baby?

I had previously visited with our dog. Even at a pet-friendly restaurant, not every guest likes dogs, which can sometimes feel uncomfortable, so I liked that there were private rooms.

There were no separate private rooms on the first floor, while the entire second floor consisted of private rooms. When I eat out with a baby, I tend to rush because there is so much to carry and I worry the baby may cry, but here I could eat with less concern about the people around us. My husband felt warm and asked for stronger air conditioning, which the staff readily adjusted.

Which meat did we order, and what were the side dishes like?

Menu

There were so many menu and set options that we debated before ordering the 600 Assorted Set, which came with French rack and five-layer pork belly.

There was a wide range of accompaniments, including kimchi, gungchae (pickled lettuce stem), pacha e (shredded scallion salad), and myeongran (seasoned pollock roe). We could get more of any finished side dishes from the self-service bar directly in front of us. The scallion salad in particular had a nutty flavor that I kept reaching for.

Could I eat comfortably while holding the baby?

It was convenient even while holding the baby because a staff member grilled all the meat. They also asked whether we needed a chair, but we did not use one because our baby could not sit up yet.

The staff suggested trying the first piece with salt, so I did. They explained that the French rack was aged, and I enjoyed it from that first salted bite. It was also good with myeongran, but I especially liked the French rack paired with scallion salad.

My husband wrapped meat in two perilla leaves and also enjoyed the aged kimchi.

I also liked the shiitake mushroom wasabi. They said the finely chopped shiitake mushrooms were seasoned with wasabi. I do not usually like the nose-tingling taste of wasabi, but this accompaniment was spicy while cutting through the richness of the meat, so I kept eating it.

What were the cold kalguksu and kimchi jjigae like with the meat?

Among the side dishes, the naeng kalguksu (cold knife-cut noodle soup) stood out to me. Its broth had a savory depth that paired well with the meat. My husband was curious about the broth too and had several spoonfuls.

At the time of writing the original post, the restaurant said it offered naeng kimchi kalguksu through a review event. I separately ordered and ate the naeng kalguksu; I did not try the event menu, naeng kimchi kalguksu.

We also enjoyed the kimchi jjigae. I liked alternating between the cold naeng kalguksu and the warm kimchi jjigae.

For this meal, the private room and meat-grilling service made it easier to eat while caring for the baby. Next time, I would like to return with both the baby and our dog for a family meal.
