Seongsu brunch with tender octopus and lasagna: Billadeubeulleu

In short

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu is a Southern Italian brunch restaurant in Seongdong, Seoul. On a daytime return visit with my mom, we shared Polpo Mambo and Alligot Cheese Lasagna for 25,000 won and 22,000 won. Verdict: a lovely pick for an unhurried lunch after a Seoul Forest walk.

I visited Billadeubeulleu Seongsu for lunch while on a Seoul Forest date with my mom. I remembered it as a place with good food after visiting once before, so this time I came back with my mom! I went in the evening last time and during the day this time, and Billadeubeulleu was quite good as a brunch spot too.

Getting there after a Seoul Forest walk

Come out of Seoul Forest Station Exit 5, and use the Seongdong-gu Community Sports Center parking building as your reference point. Enter the little woodland-path alley at the far left, where you will reach the beginning of Atelier-gil. After leaving the path, go about 30 m to the left; you will see Seongsu Baking Studio, and the restaurant is farther inside the alley to its right.

It is an easy walk while strolling around Seoul Forest, so it works nicely as a Seoul Forest date-and-brunch course. You can walk in without a reservation, but I also recommend using Naver Reservation on weekends or at mealtimes!

A terrace atmosphere that was even better by day

My last visit had more of an evening mood, but the space felt completely different during the day this time. The weather was especially nice, too—perfect for enjoying brunch on the terrace.

Billadeubeulleu Seongsu has both indoor and terrace seating, so I think it would be great for an outdoor meal on a pleasant spring or autumn day. With the daylight coming in, it felt much brighter and fresher than on my evening visit, and it was just right for a relaxed lunch and chat with my mom after walking around Seoul Forest.

The Southern Italian dishes we ordered

You can scan the QR code to view the menu, which has a range of Southern Italian dishes including pasta, risotto, steak, octopus dishes, and salads. We ordered two dishes this time.

  • Polpo Mambo ₩25,000

We reordered the lasagna we had last time, and tried the Polpo Mambo for the first time!

Just how tender was the Polpo Mambo octopus?

First up was the Polpo Mambo, which I was trying for the first time.

Octopus dish with romesco sauce

It is a Mediterranean-style octopus dish served with romesco sauce, potatoes, and peas. Personally, I do not reach for octopus when it is chewy, but the octopus here was incredibly tender. It was easy to cut with a fork, and there was very little chewiness when eating it, so it went down so easily.

And the potatoes served with the octopus were soooo good! Having the octopus with the romesco sauce and potatoes rather than on its own made everything come together in a nutty, flavorful way. Adding the peas gave each bite slightly different textures, so I just kept eating haha.

The octopus was especially tender, so if you like octopus dishes, I think this is well worth ordering.

Alligot Cheese Lasagna ordered again

The Alligot Cheese Lasagna we ordered again

The Alligot Cheese Lasagna was one of the reasons I revisited Billadeubeulleu. I had it last time too, but ended up ordering it again this time lol. It is one of Billadeubeulleu's signature dishes: lasagna topped with a cascading cheese sauce.

The lasagna arrives first, then a staff member pours the cheese sauce over it, and watching the cheese stream down right in front of you is fun. It was a memorable performance on my first visit, and seeing it again on this return visit confirmed that it is definitely the highlight of this dish. But really, taste matters more than the performance, right?

The lasagna itself was great to eat too, with the sauce and cheese blending nicely into a thick, savory richness. With all that cheese, it could easily have been too heavy, but it was more balanced than expected alongside the lasagna sauce. The portion was also enough for two people to share with one other dish.

If you visit as a pair like we did, I recommend ordering one lasagna plus one other dish to share. Once again, it was satisfying in both taste and portion size.

I enjoyed it on my previous visit too, but coming back during the day gave me a different atmosphere to enjoy, and I was glad I revisited. If you want a leisurely meal around Seoul Forest or brunch somewhere with a lovely mood, I recommend Billadeubeulleu Seongsu :)
