Gangnam café for salty caramel latte and spoon cream: Upper and Under

I visited Upper and Under, a café near Sinnonhyeon Station where you can enjoy a wide variety of coffees and drinks along with bakery items and cakes. It's close to Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6, so it was easy to get to, and a nice spot to relax with coffee and dessert. Here's my detailed review.

First, let me show you what I ordered.

Upper and Under is about 300m from Sinnonhyeon Station Exit 6, so I found it quite accessible. It's open daily, which makes it a good option if you're looking for a café near Gangnam or Sinnonhyeon stations.

It's a large café spread across the basement, 1st, and 2nd floors, so the building itself stood out.

There were too many people inside for me to get a photo, but the space — from the semi-basement to the 1st and 2nd floors — offered plenty of room to relax with drinks and dessert. On a nice day, the outdoor terrace also looked like a great spot for coffee or dessert.

The menu isn't limited to coffee — there are also cream-based drinks, ades, teas, and more. It was nice to have options depending on what you're in the mood for.

There was a wide variety of bakery items and desserts.

Madeleines, canelés, financiers, and more were lined up in the case, all looking so delicious that it was hard to decide what to pick.

Beyond bread, there were also various cakes ready, including Basque cheesecake, lemon, Earl Grey grapefruit, and fig.

How did the salty caramel, fig cake, and crème brûlée flan taste?

I picked a range of items, from coffee and cream drinks to cake and crème brûlée.

On one side, napkins, wet wipes, forks, straws, and knives were laid out.

First up, the salty caramel and iced latte.

On top were Lotus biscuits and cream. A spoon was provided so I could eat the cream separately from the drink. True to its name, the salty caramel was great to enjoy for its sweet-and-salty combination. Eating the cream on top added a softness that paired well with the dessert too.

Dessert

Next up, the crème brûlée flan and fig cake. The fig cake was topped with fresh figs, which made it look really appetizing. The cake itself was soft and went down easily, and eating it together with the figs was a nice combination.

Crème brûlée

The crème brûlée had a thin caramel layer on top that was crisp and sweet, like dalgona candy. It paired well with the soft flan underneath. I think this would suit anyone who likes a moderately sweet dessert.
