Stroller-friendly Korean lunch in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju: Jeju Badang
In short
Jeju Badang is a Jeju-style Korean restaurant on the 2nd floor of a building behind Gagyeong IPARK and Xi in Gagyeong-dong, Cheongju. On a weekday lunch visit with a baby in a stroller, the writer ordered two lunch specials of Jeju boneless hairtail stew (sunsal galchi-jorim) with rice at 21,000 won each, and the wide gaps between tables left room to park the stroller and eat comfortably. Between the plump, bone-free hairtail and a self-serve bar that even stocks fried chicken, Jeju Badang is the restaurant that comes to mind whenever braised hairtail cravings hit.

I'd been craving braised hairtail for a while, so I visited Jeju Badang, a Korean restaurant in Gajang-dong!
Where is Jeju Badang in Gagyeong-dong, and where do you park?
Jeju Badang is on the 2nd floor of a building behind Gyeongang IPARK and Xi in Gajang-dong, Cheongju. Parking is right in the building's lot, so it's easy even if you drive~~ It's near my house so I go often. There aren't many Korean restaurants around here so I used to be sad about it, but since Jeju Badang opened I've been going a lot. This time my husband and I walked over pushing the stroller.

Lunch special: Jeju boneless hairtail stew, 21,000 won per person
Looking at the menu at this Gajang-dong Korean restaurant, there's a lunch special!!!! I ordered two of the lunch special Jeju boneless hairtail stew + rice at 21,000 won each. Usually I come for dinner, but this time I visited on a weekday for lunch. You can eat for cheaper than dinner prices, so I recommend a lunch visit.
One thing that's changed since last time is there's now a drink pairing set~ Grilled tilefish and whelk salad come as a set. If you order the set, they give you a free bottle of alcohol, so it might be nice to come for dinner and have a drink with it.

Why Jeju Badang works with a baby and a stroller
Jeju Badang has wide spacing between tables, so it was great to visit with a baby and stroller. You can eat comfortably without feeling cramped~ Since having a baby I mostly go to restaurants that work well with kids, but there aren't many of those around ㅠㅠ
Jeju Badang is always clean whenever I visit, and the interior gives off strong Jeju vibes. Wooden pillars and hanji-style lighting blend together throughout, giving an overall feeling that's both quiet and clean! The traditional paintings and props on the walls also match the space well, capturing the atmosphere unique to a Jeju regional restaurant.

Side dishes, plus refillable stir-fried pork and seaweed soup
The basic side dishes come out in a spread, and it's totally generous, right?! Lots of healthy Korean side dishes come out, and each one is delicious. Every time I visit I notice again that all the side dishes are great haha. That's probably why it's a Gajang-dong Korean food spot everyone recommends. Stir-fried pork and seaweed soup come standard too. You can get refills once you finish!!! It had been a while since I had pork like this, so I inhaled it haha.

The self-serve bar at Jeju Badang has fried chicken
This Gajang-dong Korean restaurant Jeju Badang has chicken at the self-serve bar, no less. That's one of the reasons I, a chicken lover, come here often! The self-serve bar also has namul (seasoned vegetables) and salad that don't come standard, so you can take as much as you want.

Chicken and japchae (stir-fried glass noodles)~~ I mostly ate chicken and my husband ate a lot of japchae. Both are too good to call a mere freebie.

How does the Jeju boneless hairtail stew taste?
While we were busy eating the side dishes and chicken, the main dish came out — braised hairtail made with boneless Jeju hairtail. I've had grilled Atka mackerel and mackerel a few times before, but today we both craved braised hairtail so we ordered two of the same dish.

The plump hairtail flesh is no joke, right?! One reason I hesitate to order braised hairtail even when I'm craving it is that picking out the bones is such a hassle, but at this Gajang-dong Korean restaurant Jeju Badang you can eat plump hairtail to your heart's content with no bones to worry about.

To be able to eat such plump hairtail at this price — how could I not come back often?! The hairtail flesh is soft and tender, and the seasoning is spicy with tons of savory depth, so it's total rice-thief material.. The rice can also be swapped for pot rice if you'd like, so go for that if you want, and you can even have scorched rice made from it.

The radish pieces are big too, and the sauce is so thick and delicious that the radish can't help but taste amazing. Writing this is making my mouth water again, ugh..

Cleanly finished by both of us!!!! Every time I come to this Gajang-dong Korean restaurant Jeju Badang, I leave stuffed and satisfied — it's the place that always comes to mind when I want braised hairtail.

This delicious hairtail is even from Jeju!!! It's easy to come with a baby, and the staff are kind too. I recommend Jeju Badang.
