Bossam set with seafood pancake for a Dangsan Station dinner: Cheongun

I'd been craving soft, tender bossam for a while, so I went to Cheongun Bossam Dangsan Branch, a clean and generous spot that hits the spot.

A Dangsan Station favorite, great for a dinner get-together

Cheongun Bossam is close to Dangsan Station! Since they boil the bossam fresh every day, it has no gamy smell and a soft texture — a place where you can enjoy a variety of tasty Korean dishes.

The open layout gave it a nice airy feel, making it a clean, comfortable bossam restaurant near Dangsan Station to eat in.

The restaurant is spacious, so it looked great for group dinners, and having a restroom inside the store made things convenient.

There are lunch specials for office workers near Dangsan Station, plus a good-value Cheongun set menu that lets you enjoy bossam and a side dish together. We went with the bossam set, choosing jaengban makguksu, and added the seafood pancake as a side.

The banchan (side dish) spread felt like a home-style diner. Refills are self-serve, and everything suited my taste well.

Five-layer bossam and its pairing with bossam kimchi

Today's star, the five-layer bossam, arrived. The portion was generous, and best of all it came with plenty of bossam kimchi and salted cabbage to eat alongside the meat.

You can't have bossam or jokbal without jaengban makguksu (buckwheat noodles on a tray).

The noodles were mixed well and ready to enjoy! The sweet-and-sour sauce had a slight kick of spice and went well with the crisp, fresh vegetables.

This was my first time trying five-layer bossam, and I loved that it was chewier than samgyeopsal (pork belly) with the fat rendered off, giving it a clean, light flavor. The bossam kimchi in particular wasn't too salty, and it paired perfectly with the meat!!

The five-layer bossam can be swapped for gabrisal (pork shoulder blade meat), and I imagine it would also be a treat paired with baby octopus.

The seafood pancake we ordered as a side

The bossam and makguksu combo was already great, but eating just that felt like it needed something more, so the seafood pancake we ordered on the side arrived.

A nutty oil smell hit my nose right away, and it looked perfectly crispy at a glance. I would have really regretted not trying it!

I thought the amount of oil might make it a bit greasy, but the thin batter and generous toppings balanced it out, and the peperoncino and hot peppers studded throughout cut through the richness — it would make a perfect drinking snack!

There was more seafood than scallions in the pancake, so it never felt lacking, and it tasted great even after it cooled down. Next time I'd like to try Cheongun's stir-fried baby octopus alongside the tender five-layer bossam, and I think ordering bossam with seafood pancake and makgeolli on a rainy day would be the happiest combination.
