Today I want to introduce a premium lamb dining restaurant that's an absolute must for a special occasion or a cozy date. A dedicated grill master charcoal-grills tender lamb with no gamey smell and a gentle smoky aroma, so you can relax, chat, and just enjoy the food. This is my visit report on Yangnam Yanghwa, a lamb specialty restaurant tucked in the atmospheric alleys of Mullae-dong.
Where is Yangnam Yanghwa? An alley by Mullae Station Exit 3

You can find Yangnam Yanghwa easily by crossing the street from Exit 3 of Mullae Station (Line 2) and walking into the alley toward the front gate of KEPCO and the back gate of Kyobo Life. Thatched eaves, red brick, and warm-toned wood doors combine to give off a cozy feeling, like arriving at a hidden annex tucked away in the city. Lush potted plants and bamboo decorations at the entrance make it look like a great spot for an anniversary or date course.
Inside Yangnam Yanghwa: bar table under wooden rafters and a brass hood

Step inside Yangnam Yanghwa and your eyes are drawn straight up to the antique wooden rafters and the copper-toned brass exhaust hood. The restaurant is built around one long bar table, so you can watch the staff grill your meat with care right in front of you. Along the wall, indirect lighting sits alongside neatly installed wooden hangers, perfect for hanging up a jacket or bag without wrinkling it.

A sign at each seat kindly explains an event — follow Yangnam Yanghwa on Naver Talk Talk alerts or leave an Instagram review for a free drink or highball. Looking over the menu, there were both individual dishes and well-rounded set courses. We went with the signature Premium Lamb Dining, adding seafood ramyeon (Korean ramen) and garlic rice on the side, along with a Suntory highball.
Side dishes and the five sauces served with the lamb

The individual mats set with tableware and sauce plates made us feel genuinely well taken care of. The base side dishes were refreshing white kimchi, crunchy stalk lettuce jangajji (pickle), and a spicy cheongyang chili soy sauce. For pairing with the meat, there was Maldon salt, spicy cumin (zhiran), smooth house mayo, fresh wasabi, and a fragrant basil jelly sauce — enough variety to make every single bite of meat taste a little different.
What comes in the Premium Lamb Dining set: rib rack and T-bone

With the grill filled with glowing red charcoal, our main Premium Lamb Dining plate arrived. It was laid out neatly with hefty rib rack pieces and a T-bone (striploin + tenderloin) showing clear, vivid marbling. Just looking at the pale fat layer running through the meat's grain and its moist texture, you could feel the pride of this Mullae lamb restaurant that insists on top-tier cuts only.
A grill master grills the lamb T-bone over charcoal at the table

On the grill, the thick T-bone cuts were joined by mushrooms, scallion, whole onion, cherry tomatoes, and eggplant, all carefully wrapped in foil. There's no need to grill anything yourself — a dedicated staff member layers on the gentle charcoal smoke flavor and cooks everything to a careful medium doneness, crisp outside and juicy inside. The brass hood pulled the smoke and smell away instantly, keeping things remarkably comfortable.
Juicy T-bone striploin with the house basil jelly sauce

The T-bone striploin was the first cut plated for us. We took a glossy, golden-browned piece and topped it lightly with the basil jelly sauce. The moment we bit in, savory juices burst through the mouth, meeting the basil's clean, fresh aroma perfectly. A touch of sharp fresh wasabi cut through the richness, and we kept reaching for more without ever feeling like we'd had enough.

Sipping a cool, refreshing Suntory highball between bites, the lemony brightness and fizzy bubbles rinsed the palate clean — an incredible match with the lamb.
Meltingly tender T-bone tenderloin and chewy lamb rib rack

Next came the T-bone tenderloin, its grain so fine and soft it practically melted the second it hit the mouth. The rib rack, on the other hand, had a chewier bite with concentrated flavor, giving that satisfying texture to sink your teeth into. With absolutely no gamey smell, even people who usually shy away from lamb could dig in without hesitation — this is top-tier lamb quality for a Mullae restaurant.
Grilled vegetable garnish, sweet and full of juice

The king oyster mushrooms, cooked inside the foil packet until soaked with juices, were fantastic dipped in salt, with a chewy, scallop-like texture. Golden-grilled eggplant, cherry tomatoes bursting with sweet juice, and fragrant grilled scallion rounded out an already generous meal.
Finishing the meal: garlic-chip rice and spicy seafood ramyeon

The garlic rice we ordered came topped with crispy fried garlic chips and a generous dusting of parsley over savory rice. A full spoonful gave off a gentle garlic aroma with a satisfying crunch — the perfect companion for a piece of well-cooked lamb on top.

The seafood ramyeon (noodle soup) arrived in a big bowl packed with crab, mussels, clams, and scallion, the broth deep and clean-tasting. The perfectly chewy noodles soaked up the spicy, hot seafood broth, making it the ideal finish to clear the palate after all that meat.
Fruit sherbet dessert to reset the palate

Once the meal was done, the final course brought a bright, orange-hued fruit sherbet. It melted the instant it hit the mouth, releasing sweet, tangy juice that fully reset the palate after all that charcoal-grilled meat. The whole flow of the course — from welcome drink to main lamb, to a hearty meal, to this sherbet finish — was really well thought out.
Is Yangnam Yanghwa worth a visit? Final thoughts
This is a restaurant with real elevated hanok-mood atmosphere, where skilled hands cook top-grade T-bone striploin, tenderloin, and rib rack right in front of you — and satisfaction ran high. The lamb itself had zero gamey smell and plenty of juice, and the pairing with the house sauces and grilled vegetable garnish was excellent. With fragrant garlic rice, a soothing seafood ramyeon, and a clean dessert sherbet, every single menu item was executed well. I'd strongly recommend this Mullae lamb spot for a date with someone special or an important gathering.
