Eating the braised oxtail and hanwoo tartare
I ordered one braised oxtail and one hanwoo yuk-sashimi (raw beef tartare) at Umi Hoegwan Jonggak Main Branch. The oxtail is limited to 10 bowls a day, and luckily I got one 🍀

The oxtail had more meat on the bone than I expected, and the meat, chives and soy-based sauce went really well together! There were also thin noodles inside

The sauce was so good I ordered a bowl of rice and mixed it in — delicious!

The hanwoo tartare was chewy and firm, the kind of flavor that calls for soju 🍶 ✔️Note: on Sundays the slaughterhouse is closed, so mungtigi isn't available (since it's butchered same-day!). If you're going for mungtigi, make sure to visit on a weekday or Saturday ⭐️

The tartare comes with pear, radish sprouts, gamtae (seasoned seaweed) and egg yolk on the side, great to pair with

Piling everything onto the gamtae was pure bliss 👍
And this sauce is a real standout — it's a gochujang-based sauce with a bold kick that pairs perfectly with the tartare 🌶️
Restrooms and other facilities

The restroom is the shared one in the building. Check the photo for the door code!

There was floss and mouthwash in the restroom — they seem to pay attention to the little details

Also available at the counter!

If you're looking for a good spot for a glass of soju in Jongno, I recommend Umi Hoegwan Jonggak Main Branch!
