Bucheon fried chicken takeaway with Chili's cheese sticks: Angry Potato

While looking for something quick to eat at Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch, I stopped by Angry Potato. It has lots of menu items that are great to take on an outing, including fries, chicken, mini burgers, and cheese sticks.

Hours are 10:30–20:00 from Monday to Thursday and 10:30–20:30 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They may change with the Hyundai Department Store schedule, so it is best to check before visiting. See the photo below for the exact hours.

Parking follows the Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch guidelines. As far as I know, it differs according to the purchase amount.

Anyone who has visited Hyundai Department Store Jungdong Branch often will know it: it is right in front of the food hall escalator, and I had always wanted to try it. Along with fries, there is chicken made with thigh meat, mini burgers, chewy potatoes, and plenty of other good sides, so you can put together whatever suits your taste.

What I ordered and the freshly fried takeaway

I ordered the Deep Crunch Chicken Box (₩19,500), Mini Burger Skewer (₩10,500), and Chili's Cheese Stick (₩4,500). Since everything is cooked to order, there is a short wait, but I loved that I could get it freshly fried. They said the chicken would take about 15 minutes, so I looked around nearby.

As soon as I ordered, a line suddenly formed like this. The really funny thing is, whenever I go somewhere there is absolutely no one there, and then suddenly a line forms or it becomes completely packed.

The shop is quite small, but they really do keep frying chicken right there and pack up the freshly fried chicken immediately. So I think it would taste best eaten right away.

There is a free sauce bar on one side of the shop. You can get refills and choose whichever sauces you want.

Since I chose takeaway, I thought I would not be able to bring any sauce with me, but they said I could drizzle as much as I liked over the chicken box!

Of course, if you want to take sauce separately, you can also have it packed separately by paying for a sauce cup.

There was a self-service packing area with plastic gloves, disposable wooden spoons and forks, plastic bags, and more, which was convenient.

The smell was so good in the car on the way home that I had to take a photo..! It looked so appetizing. Especially the Chili's Cheese Stick—I really, really wanted to eat it while driving because it should not be allowed to get cold.

What comes in the Deep Crunch Chicken Box

The Deep Chicken Box is generously put together, with Hot Crunch Chicken, fries, chewy potatoes, and several other items all in one box. There is enough that you have to wonder what to eat first, and you can enjoy many flavors and textures at once.

Hot Crunch Chicken and fresh potato fries

The Hot Crunch Chicken uses 100% chicken thigh meat, so the meat is tender and juicy. It has an evenly crisp coating and is pleasantly salty, so it tastes good on its own. It comes in bite-sized pieces that are easy to pick up with a fork, and dipping sauce makes the flavor even fuller.

The fries are made from 100% fresh potatoes, not frozen potatoes, and fried to order. Crisp outside and fluffy within, they really let the nutty flavor of the potatoes come through. They are nice to alternate with the chicken, and each sauce gives them a different flavor.

The chewy potatoes included in the box are just as their name suggests: slightly crisp outside and chewy inside. Their texture is completely different from regular fries, which makes it fun to pick one up every now and then. Once they cool, though, the crispness disappears, so they would be best eaten right after ordering.

Mini Burger Skewer and cheddar dipping sauce

The Mini Burger Skewer comes with three different mini burgers on a skewer. Each has a soft brioche bun with crisp chicken or a patty, vegetables, and sauce, so they are small but quite generously filled.

The buns are soft and buttery, and the chicken burger has a great combination of crispy chicken and crunchy vegetables. The patty burger in the black bun brings together the rich meatiness of the patty and the savory flavor of cheese nicely.

The cheddar dipping sauce that comes with the Mini Burger Skewer is thick and savory, and it goes well not only with the mini burgers but also with the fries and chicken. Rather than using it with just one item, I recommend dipping the different fried foods in the box in turn.

The Chili's Cheese Stick I was most curious about

The Chili's Cheese Stick was the menu item I was most curious about because I have been seeing it everywhere lately. Its outside is generously coated in red chili sauce, so it looks spicy from the start. Bite into it and mozzarella cheese stretches softly from inside the crisp coating, while the rich cheese works beautifully with the sweet-spicy sauce. It was spicier than I expected, so it did not become greasy and stayed delicious to the end. I can see why it is popular—definitely add the Chili's Cheese Stick.

Everything came neatly packed in boxes, so there was less worry about it getting jumbled while traveling. It is a good selection to share with several people and easy to take along for a picnic, baseball game, or drive.
