Sangsu bar with a waterwheel entrance, sauced chicken neck: Kkoko Land

In short

Kkoko Land is an outdoor bar (yajang) in Hongdae, Seoul, 480m from Sangsu Station Exit 2 and billed as the largest of its kind in the neighborhood. Past a stone wall, a turning waterwheel and a deck strung with colored bulbs, Kkoko Land serves its signature charcoal-grilled chicken neck in sauce for 24,000 won, with a welcome drink included. Kkoko Land is less a place to visit for the food alone than one to visit for the space itself.

Finding a place to drink in Hongdae always comes with the same dilemma — good vibe means cramped, spacious means a bit sterile. But near Sangsu Station I finally found a proper Hongdae outdoor bar that gets it right.

This is Kkoko Land, and from the moment I stepped in I was thinking, "wait, what is this place?"

Where is Kkoko Land and what are its hours?

Kkoko Land is on the 1st–2nd floor of 18 Wausan-ro 19-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, 480m from Sangsu Station Exit 2. Hours are Saturday and Sunday 12:00–2:00 AM, Monday to Friday 16:00–2:00 AM, with last order at 1:00 AM.

It's an easy walk from Sangsu Station, and just as easy if you're coming down from Hongdae. The entrance itself was already something else — a stone wall, a wooden sign, and an actual waterwheel turning right there.

You walk in through a deck path lined tightly with colored lights, so it feels less like walking into a bar and more like arriving somewhere for a day trip. Since it runs until 2am, it works great as a second or third stop, not just your first.

What is the atmosphere like at Kkoko Land?

The first thing I thought walking into Kkoko Land was "this is huge." True to its claim of being the largest yajang (outdoor drinking spot) in Hongdae, the space is wide open.

Wide, high-ceilinged outdoor hall at Kkoko Land

The ceilings are really high, so even with a crowd in, there was zero sense of it feeling cramped. The interior has a pension-house or campground kind of feel — wooden picnic tables, a bar area topped with a thatched roof, a giraffe statue, and yes, another waterwheel turning indoors.

On top of that, a huge screen keeps playing music videos and colored lighting runs throughout, so this leans more toward a high-energy hangout than a quiet spot.

With floor-to-ceiling glass and a roof structure, it seems to keep the outdoor-drinking feel while staying less exposed to the weather. Group seating is generous too, so it's a solid pick for bigger gatherings.

Welcome drink and the sauced charcoal chicken neck at 24,000 won

As soon as you sit down at Kkoko Land, they bring out a welcome drink, and the standout dish is the signature charcoal-grilled chicken neck in sauce at ₩24,000.

Yellow welcome drink packed with ice

The welcome drink was a yellowish, tropical-leaning drink packed with ice, and it made for a great first impression. Getting a little service like that at a bar just puts you in a good mood, right?

Chicken neck is a specialty cut, grilled over charcoal and coated in sauce. It comes piled high on a slate plate, topped with cheongyang chili peppers, and the smoky char really comes through.

The sauce is sweet upfront with a spicy kick trailing behind, so the drinks just keep flowing. Chicken neck has a naturally chewy texture, and it was so good!! The grilled corn and salad served alongside worked surprisingly well too — they cut the richness and tamed the spice, perfect to alternate bites with.

The basic starter snack was a chicken-leg-shaped cracker, and honestly that was delicious too.

For reference, the salted version is ₩21,000, and they also have house-made grilled sausage (₩29,000) and icy makguksu, cold buckwheat noodles (₩16,000).

Tips for visiting Kkoko Land, and is it worth it?

  • Good for big groups — the wide layout and long tables work especially well for parties of four or more.
  • Check the vibe fits you — with the music video screens and colored lighting, it leans lively. That said, the high ceilings mean conversation still carries fine.

  • Finish with makguksu — after the sauced dishes, wrapping up with something cool like the icy makguksu seems like a great combo.
  • Check wait times by hour — it's a new spot and fairly large, but late Friday and Saturday nights can get busy, so it's worth checking ahead before you go.

To sum up, Kkoko Land feels less like a place to go for the food alone and more like a place to go for the space itself. If you're hunting for a Seogyo-dong restaurant-bar or a Sangsu bar to grab a beer, this one is worth adding to your list of Hongdae outdoor bars.
