Today I went out for a proper meat refuel after way too long! Pork belly and beef brisket are seriously two of my favorite things to eat. I heard there was a really solid Seongshin Women's University restaurant selling quality, same-day butchered pork, so I ran straight there.
The weather was cool and breezy — perfect for grilled meat with a drink — and I went in with high expectations. This Seongshin Women's University BBQ spot exceeded them! Let me introduce Jangheungjip (장흥집).
Exterior — a green sign glowing behind a floor-to-ceiling window
The moment I turned into the alley, a clean, crisp green sign caught my eye right away! With its floor-to-ceiling window structure, you could see straight into the interior from outside, and the place looked so spotless that I felt confident before even stepping in.

Maybe because the weather was nice, but the light filtering in through the window made it feel like the perfect setting for grilling meat. By the entrance there were plenty of waiting chairs set up thoughtfully for customers — I really liked that touch.

Interior — a retro spot packed even on a weeknight
Even though it was a weeknight, the place was completely packed with customers! Just the kind of popularity you'd expect from a well-known Seongshin Women's University restaurant. The interior was decorated in a retro yet clean and comfortable style.

Every table had a plastic liner laid down carefully, so I could eat without worrying about grease. That kind of careful hygiene management is so great!

On top of that, Jangheungjip says it only uses carefully selected, fresh, grade-1 domestic pork that's butchered the same day — no wonder the meat can't taste anything but great. There were disposable aprons neatly provided to keep off the grease splatter, which I put on gladly.

Menu board and our order
The lineup of meats — pork belly, pork shoulder, beef brisket — was solid, but what really stood out was the wide variety of side dishes. Everything from my favorite stews to noodle dishes was on the menu, all at wallet-friendly prices, so it was perfect for ordering a big spread.

Each table conveniently has a kiosk. There were tons of set menu options too. Here's what we ordered:
- Mixed platter (medium) ₩54,000
- Flash-frozen pork belly, 4 servings ₩60,000
- Kimchi noodle soup ₩7,000
- Doenjang beef brisket rice ₩7,000
- Minari fried rice, 2 servings ₩6,000
- Soju, 6 bottles ₩30,000
Banchan — from macaroni salad to pink sausage pancake
Once the order was placed, a big retro tray arrived first, loaded with neat side dishes and various sauces. The lettuce and perilla leaves for wrapping looked as fresh and green as if they'd just been picked from a field! My all-time favorite — soft, sweet macaroni salad — showed up too, and I devoured it before the meat even hit the grill haha. The tangy, well-fermented green onion kimchi was bursting with savory flavor and paired perfectly with the meat, and the nostalgic pink sausage pancake was a fun little extra.

How was the same-day butchered pork belly, brisket, and pork shoulder?
Finally, today's star — the meat! We tried beef brisket, pork belly, and pork shoulder together. From the bright red color to the marbling, everything looked exceptionally fresh and high quality, just as you'd expect from same-day butchered meat.

The staff arranged the meat beautifully on the grill themselves, and the portions were enormous. They laid down the thick pork belly first, then added fragrant minari (water celery), aged kimchi, and bracken fern to grill together in the rendered fat — the whole visual was incredible!
While everything sizzled away, they grilled the thin, tender beef brisket first. The savory meaty aroma hit my nose and had me practically drooling.

The golden-brown pork belly, the savory mushrooms, and the kimchi crisped in pork fat were all cooked to perfection. Even with just a light dip in salt, the juices burst out with no gamey smell at all — so chewy and delicious!
Put a fresh perilla leaf in your hand, pile on thick pork belly, minari, and a generous heap of spicy tangy green onion kimchi, then wrap it all up into one big bite — no words needed for that combo!

Complimentary doenjang soup and side dishes
Partway through the meal, a savory doenjang soup (soybean paste stew) arrived — and it was on the house! Bubbling away in an earthenware pot, packed with tofu and vegetables, the broth was so rich and savory it made me crave rice.

Next came the doenjang rice with beef brisket and the kimchi noodle soup we'd ordered. Beyond the meat, the kitchen clearly has real skill here! The doenjang rice had the rich broth soaked into every grain, filling and satisfying, while the kimchi noodle soup, topped with shaved ice, was tangy, refreshing, and washed away all the grease.

Finishing with minari fried rice
It wouldn't feel complete without the classic K-BBQ finale — fried rice! They finely chopped the leftover kimchi, meat, and minari on the grill and stir-fried it all together. Everything melded into one incredibly savory bite, I could've cried haha.

As the finishing touch, they topped it with a perfect fried egg, yolk ready to burst — such a nice detail! Even though I was already stuffed, I couldn't stop scraping the pan clean with my spoon.

With such a delicious spread laid out, time for cheers! 🍻 Knocking back a happy drink, I felt the day's fatigue melt away.

Another satisfying, stuffed-full meal today!

Restroom
The restroom is located inside the building. It's separated by gender, which is a nice touch.
