Mild braised bone stew with cheese sarie in Siheung: Cheongchun

In short

Cheongchun Bulbbyeojjim & Gamjatang Jeongwang Station is a braised bone stew restaurant right outside Exit 1 of Jeongwang Station in Siheung, Gyeonggi. On a late weekend lunch, the writer ordered the medium gungjung bbyeojjim (royal braised bone stew) with added cheese sarie (extra noodle/topping), and found the meat sweet-and-salty like soy-braised jjimdak, with big bones and soft, easy-to-pick meat. A solid bone stew spot to bring someone who can't handle spicy food.

For a late weekend lunch, I went for gungjung bbyeojjim (royal braised bone stew) at Cheongchun Bulbbyeojjim & Gamjatang near Jeongwang Station~ It's a bone-dish specialist serving gamjatang (pork bone soup), bulbbyeojjim (spicy braised bone stew), gungjung bbyeojjim, and bbyeo haejangguk (bone hangover soup) — great for a meal, a drink, or when you need to cure a hangover.

Front view of the bone-dish specialty restaurant's entrance

There are plenty of gamjatang or bbyeo haejangguk places around where I live, but restaurants that specialize in bbyeojjim are rare, so I went in with high expectations~

Sign announcing a discount on gamjatang takeout orders

You get an extra ₩5,000 off if you order the gamjatang for takeout, so takeout might be worth considering too.

Table layout inside the restaurant

The restaurant is a bit small, with six 4-person tables and one 2-person table, so I'd recommend booking ahead via Naver or by phone. I visited around 2:30pm on a weekend and customers kept steadily coming in, plus there were a lot of delivery orders too.

Menu & Prices

A Jeongwang Station favorite: bbyeojjim & gamjatang menu

  • Cheongchun Bulbbyeojjim, Gungjung Bbyeojjim — Small ₩34,000 / Medium ₩39,000 / Large ₩44,000
  • Cheongchun Gamjatang — Small ₩29,000 / Medium ₩34,000 / Large ₩39,000

Besides the single bbyeojjim and gamjatang dishes, there are also good-value solo meal sets and 2-person set menus. If you like spicy food, go for the bulbbyeojjim; if you're sensitive to spice, gungjung bbyeojjim or gamjatang is the safe pick. For sides, you can order steamed egg, spicy oyster mushroom stir-fry, spicy kim-mari, or fried mandu, each ₩4,000.

Banchan (side dishes) included pickled radish, seasoned chives, napa cabbage kimchi, and cubed radish kimchi.

Gungjung Bbyeojjim Medium ₩39,000 + Cheese Sarie ₩2,500

The bbyeojjim comes out fully cooked and ready to eat, but it takes a bit longer than gamjatang. It took about 15 minutes for the dish to arrive.

Medium-size gungjung bbyeojjim served fully cooked

The medium size of gungjung bbyeojjim is enough for 2–3 people, and since I went with my husband, we ordered generously. It's quite a lot for two people, so unless you eat a lot, the small size should be plenty!

You can add sarie (extra toppings) depending on your taste, so I added the cheese sarie~

Basic sarie with rice cake, wedge potato, and glass noodles

Even the basic sarie was generous, loaded with rice cake, wedge potato, wide glass noodles, quail eggs, and enoki mushrooms.

Steamed egg served free with the gungjung bbyeojjim order

This steamed egg comes free with an order of gungjung bbyeojjim. It was bouncy and soft.

Bone stew meat picked apart from the bone
Bbyeojjim meat dipped in mustard sauce

The bones were big and had a lot of meat on them, and it came off easily and softly, so it was easy to eat. The meat was well seasoned so it tasted good on its own, and it also went well dipped in mustard sauce.

The gungjung bbyeojjim near the end, with a light broth remaining

Gungjung bbyeojjim tastes similar to soy-braised jjimdak — sweet and salty, a flavor anyone of any age can enjoy without worry. The lightly reduced broth is also great mixed with rice. Next time you're craving bbyeojjim or gamjatang near Jeongwang Station, give Cheongchun Bulbbyeojjim & Gamjatang Jeongwang Station branch a try~!
