An evening of flower sirloin and salchisal near Sungshin Women's University

While deciding what to have for dinner around Sungshin Women's University, I suddenly craved beef for the first time in a while, so I visited Yukilgwan! I already love meat, so I decided to really go for it that day and ordered flower sirloin and salchisal (a tender, well-marbled beef cut). It was even nicer because I could compare the texture and flavor of the two cuts. I went with flower sirloin and salchisal that day 🤍

Order of flower sirloin and salchisal

There is nothing more exciting than grilling meat right after ordering it, haha.

Preparing to grill the ordered Korean beef

The moment it hit the grill, it smelled so delicious that I wanted to eat it right away 🥺

The nutty aroma of two portions of flower sirloin and basil pesto

🥩 2 portions of flower sirloin The first thing we ate was flower sirloin!

The flower sirloin had just the right amount of marbling, so a nutty aroma really came through as it grilled. Rather than cooking it too well-done, we cooked it just enough, and it was tender and juicy. In particular, dipping a piece very lightly in salt really let the flavor of the meat itself shine through—so good.

Their house-made basil pesto was seriously the key! They said it takes eight hours to make... honestly, insanely delicious 👍🏻👍🏻 They also make their own Cheongyang chili pepper pickles, which were so nice for cutting through the richness.

Flower sirloin feels like something people who love a tender texture and nutty flavor would really enjoy! The two of us had two portions, but it disappeared faster than expected—when you are eating meat, the portion always ends up feeling a little too small, hahaha.

Tasting the difference with one portion of salchisal

🥩 1 portion of salchisal

One portion of salchisal

After we finished the flower sirloin, they grilled the salchisal too. It had a different feel from the flower sirloin, with a slightly richer beef flavor and a tender texture that I loved. Since we did not grill it for too long, it was not chewy at all, just soft, and every bite made me want to keep reaching for more 🥹

Personally, I liked having flower sirloin first and then moving on to salchisal, because I could really notice the differences between the two cuts.

Off-menu doenjang sulbap and a plum tea finish

We asked for doenjang sulbap (rice simmered in soybean-paste stew), which is not on the menu, and they added rice to the stew and simmered it together 🤤🤤 It was seafood-based and seriously delicious, haha.

It was also nice to finish so refreshingly with plum tea.

For a day when you want Korean beef near Sungshin Women's University

Yukilgwan Korean Beef Restaurant (육일관 한우전문점) was a nice choice for a day when I wanted a neat meat dinner near Sungshin Women's University, or Korean beef on a date! We had two portions of flower sirloin and one portion of salchisal that day, and it was just right for two people eating mostly meat. The flower sirloin in particular was tender and nutty, and I was glad we added the salchisal too 🥰

The flower sirloin and salchisal we had that day were said to be grade 1++, the highest grade of Korean beef in Korea, so I ate them with even higher expectations—and they were truly delicious 🖤 The marbling was clearly dense, and even the nutty aroma that rose as the meat grilled felt on another level! The flower sirloin especially was tender and juicy enough to be delicious with just a light dip in salt. It was a satisfying dinner that really felt like enjoying good Korean beef properly.

If you are looking for quality Korean beef or a good steakhouse near Sungshin Women's University, this seems like a place worth visiting at least once. Keep it in mind if you are looking for somewhere to eat meat around Sungshin Women's University ☁️
