Seongdong pasta restaurant with fried corn gnocchi: Sedici

Sedici, a little away from Seongsu's busy main area

Sedici in Seongsu is located a little away from the busy Seongsu area we usually visit, in a somewhat quieter spot. Personally, I really love this. Seongsu is just so crowded! And having parking support is such a great thing in parking-hell Seongsu, I think. Parking is provided for a total of 2 hours.

First of all, the interior is very neat. Sedici has created a cozy space with an upscale atmosphere—it is not huge, but it feels inviting.

What are the open kitchen and table spacing like?

It also has an open kitchen, so you can watch all the cooking happening inside, and I think that is another major strength of Sedici. You can watch the whole process of the dish you ordered being cooked and arriving at your table. The kitchen was also very neatly organized and visibly clean in detail, which was reassuring.

The tables were neatly set, and each seat had a space for bags. The tables are not large, but they were enough for two people to dine at, and there were separate seats for three or four people as well. The gap between neighboring seats is on the narrow side, so if that might make you conscious of your conversation, it would be good to keep this in mind before visiting.

The three dishes we ordered at Sedici

We ordered three dishes. Since we drove there, we did not order alcohol separately, but overall, each dish would go well with a glass of wine.

• Fried Chodang corn gnocchi (₩24,000)
• Shrimp crumble (₩23,000)
• Beef tartare (₩19,000)

All three are signature recommended dishes at Sedici, and many people have already chosen them. Looking at the menu prices for a moment, they are very reasonable. Even considering the character of Seongsu-dong, I personally thought the prices were reasonable from the outset and ordered them.

The beef tartare and brioche combination

First up was the beef tartare. We added brioche and had it together.

The beef tartare looked a little unfamiliar somehow, but it was nicely tangy and perfect to enjoy as an appetizer.

And the pairing with the brioche they recommended was excellent too. If you are considering the beef tartare, I definitely recommend ordering the brioche with it.

Mildly spicy shrimp crumble

Next was the shrimp crumble. This is also one of Sedici's signature dishes. Personally, it felt like a rather unusual pasta. I eat oil pasta often, and perhaps because the sauce was mildly spicy and had plenty of shrimp meat, the aroma was wonderful.

And I think its biggest advantage was that, for an oil pasta, it was not overly rich.

The fried Chodang corn gnocchi I looked forward to most

Finally, the fried Chodang corn gnocchi. This really is Sedici's signature dish. Sedici is known as a great gnocchi spot in Seongsu, and this was the dish I was most excited to try.

I have had gnocchi a few times, but this was my first time trying gnocchi made with corn, and I also found it interesting that the potato was fried. It was pleasantly mild and chewy.

You can keep ordering pickles, and they had just the right flavor to refresh your palate while eating.

For dessert, they provided famous lemon candy that I had personally bought before. Overall, the service was very kind, and I also really liked how they always kept an eye on guests and responded right away.
