24-hour sundaeguk restaurant near Sillim Station, Seoul: Sinjuokmi

In short

Sinjuokmi Sillim Station is a sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) restaurant open 24 hours, every day, near Sillim Station Exit 6 in Gwanak, Seoul. On a midnight visit, a soondae-only sundaeguk and a spicy sundaeguk with a suyuk jeongsik (boiled pork set) upgrade for 3,800 won extra came to 26,800 won total, and the broth was mild enough to season with salted shrimp at the table. The bowl held only 7-8 pieces of soondae, so an add-on option would help, but Sinjuokmi still makes a satisfying late-night meal in Seoul.

Tonight my husband got off work late, so we went for dinner-slash-late-night-snack at Sinjuokmi, a 24-hour sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) place in Sillim. It's open every day around the clock, so it's an easy spot to drop into whenever!

Where is Sinjuokmi Sillim Station, and is there parking?

Sinjuokmi Sillim Station branch is near Sillim Station Exit 6, and it's not tucked down some dark alley, which made it easy to get to. Turns out the original branch is in Gwangju — and this place got a Blue Ribbon award in 2024!

I thought there was no parking, but apparently you can park right in front of the restaurant. We got there around midnight, and since it's a busy commercial area, quite a few people were still eating that late.

Sinjuokmi's menu board and what the dining room feels like

There's an outdoor menu board so you can check the menu and prices first — bone haejangguk, naejang gukbap, sundaeguk, suyuk, pork cutlet, potato pancake, spicy pollock salad, sundae-gopchang jeongol, and more.

The place is clean, with a generous number of 4-tops. It seemed like the kind of place where you could eat quietly — except that night a drunk customer decided to loudly yell into their phone and at their table companion, showing zero regard for public etiquette. So loud, ugh, so loud. Come on people, don't ruin it for everyone else.

Sundaeguk types at Sinjuokmi, from bracken to glutinous rice

Sinjuokmi uses domestic pork slaughtered the same day and boils it fresh every two hours, so you get a hot, tasty bowl any time. Besides regular sundaeguk, they also have bracken sundaeguk and glutinous rice sundaeguk — the bracken is boiled and stir-fried fresh in-house every day, apparently.

I thought this place only did sundaeguk, but turns out they have bone haejangguk too — I only found out because my husband went back and got takeout the very next day, haha. We do sometimes revisit places we liked, but going back the day after was a new one for us, lol.

Pepper and perilla seed powder on the table

Once you order, you get heotgae tea and basic side dishes. Pepper and perilla seed powder are on the table, while salted shrimp, dadaegi (chili paste), and chives are at the self-serve corner.

Ssamjang, onion, and pepper side dishes

I heard somewhere that seasoning the broth with salted shrimp instead of salt gives it a richer, deeper flavor — ever since, whenever there's salted shrimp on the table, I use that instead of salt, haha. I also like dipping onion and mild pepper in ssamjang and eating them alongside the soup, so I was glad there was plenty of onion. Good stuff. Fair warning though — the peppers here have a slight kick!

What the 3,800-won suyuk jeongsik upgrade gets you

This is the suyuk jeongsik add-on to the spicy sundaeguk! You get a bit of meat, heart, and liver. Pay ₩3,800 extra to upgrade to the full set — and it arrives before the sundaeguk itself!

Everything came out in about 10 minutes. The sundaeguk arrived piping hot and looked so appetizing. There's also stir-fried kimchi at the self-serve bar, which works great as a side dish too!

Bubbling away~ If you're not great with super-hot food, don't mix your rice straight into the hot stone bowl — ladle some broth into a side plate and mix it there instead. That way, even when you're starving, you can slurp it down without burning your mouth.

Soondae-only sundaeguk: how much soondae is in the bowl?

I swapped out the meat for a soondae-only sundaeguk, expecting a mountain of blood sausage, but I think I got about 7-8 pieces. The regular sundaeguk probably comes with around 3 pieces? I'm a soondae-only kind of eater, so it'd be great if they added a soondae add-on option to the regular sundaeguk for people with my taste, haha.

The broth wasn't salty, so it was easy to season it yourself — even a tiny bit of salted shrimp was just right.

How spicy is Sinjuokmi's spicy sundaeguk?

The spicy sundaeguk has a red broth — I ordered the regular version, so it comes with both soondae and meat. My husband ate it and said it wasn't spicy at all! Since it's not hot, it'd work well as a drinking companion dish or a hangover cure too.

The soondae was so good~~

Mix the rice in, pile some soondae on top, dip onion in ssamjang and eat it together — oh man, so good!! Koreans really do run on rice power.
