In short
Mujin Yeontan is a charcoal-grilled gopchang (beef intestine) restaurant in an alley in front of the bus depot in Minrak-dong, Suyeong-gu, Busan. On a weekend early evening the writer ordered three servings of salt-grilled gopchang plus pork neck, pork belly, doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and kimchi mari guksu (kimchi noodle soup), and the gopchang was chewy with no off smell. Busan has an unusual number of old, beloved gopchang (grilled beef intestine) restaurants haha. Whenever friends from other regions visit Gwangalli, they all seem to hunt down a famous gopchang place?! Having grown up going to Gwangalli restaurants my whole life, though, I've gradually stopped bothering with the famous spots that have crazy-long waits... I'd rather point people toward the real local favorites instead.
When I eat gopchang, the most important thing to me is whether it has that distinctive off smell or is clean of it — and this was my first time at Mujin Yeontan in Minrak-dong, and it totally delivered. Let me walk you through Mujin Yeontan, where everything is pre-grilled over charcoal before it hits your table.
Where is Mujin Yeontan in Minrak-dong, Busan?
Mujin Yeontan is a charcoal-grilled gopchang restaurant on the alley in Minrak-dong where a bunch of good restaurants cluster together. It's right in front of the bus depot, so it's easy to find!

This Gwangalli gopchang restaurant isn't just about gopchang — it's a meat restaurant serving pork belly, pork neck, hot pot and more, so it's a place that just about anyone would enjoy.

Weekend early-evening mood and group seating at Mujin Yeontan
We visited on a weekend, early evening, and several tables were already eating. There seemed to be plenty of room for group seating, because a steady stream of group parties kept coming in the whole time we were there!

What's on the Mujin Yeontan menu?
The menu includes a pork set with charcoal pork belly, charcoal pork neck and charcoal makchang, plus beef too. You can get everything from Korean beef sirloin to specialty cuts, all in one place.

The side dishes: garlic scapes and mu-saengchae (radish salad)
This is Mujin Yeontan's basic table setup. The grilled garlic scapes were so good I kept asking for refills lol. And the mu-saengchae (spicy radish salad) was exactly my taste!! Eating it alongside the pre-grilled gopchang cut the richness perfectly and it was so good.

Switching between the special sauce and the mu-saengchae, I was able to eat all the way through without getting tired of it haha.

How does the charcoal pre-grilling work?
Once the order goes in, the owner starts pre-grilling right away over charcoal in a station near the entrance.
To avoid any off smell, you absolutely need good-quality ingredients, and seeing the pre-grilling happen out in the open gave me confidence in the ingredients themselves.

How did the salt-grilled gopchang, pork neck and pork belly taste?
We started with 3 servings of salt-grilled gopchang and 1 pork neck. We only meant to try a bite of the pork neck, but it was so thick — why is this so good?! Mujin Yeontan really seems to be serious about the meat itself.

Need I say more about gopchang pre-grilled over charcoal... it was chewy and went so well with the special sauce that the soju just kept flowing.

The garlic scapes were an absolute masterstroke. Eating those made me curious about the pork belly too, so we ordered it as an add-on.

The pork belly also comes pre-grilled, so you only need to finish it off a bit more at the table — I'd recommend ordering it before you run out of meat, so there's no gap.

The pork belly was so good too... ㅜ To everyone who's tired of waiting in line at the many famous gopchang restaurants around Gwangalli, please skip the queue and go to Mujin Yeontan instead haha.

Finishing with doenjang jjigae and kimchi mari guksu
We also ordered doenjang jjigae and kimchi mari guksu, and even the meal items were amazing?! We were too full to try the gopchang hot pot, but need I say anything about the owner's skill... ㅜ
The cool, tangy broth was a standout.

Being able to eat and drink this well and this full made Mujin Yeontan a place I'll definitely be a regular at.

Service from the owner and the final verdict on Mujin Yeontan
The owner kept bringing us extra service items on the house... lol. Dried filefish and jjondegi (grilled rice snacks) grilled over charcoal can't possibly taste bad ㅜㅜ I actually had to ask him to please stop. Our Mujin Yeontan meal only ended once we were on the verge of bursting lol.
Thanks to the friendly owner, the food tasted twice as good at this off-smell-free Gwangalli gopchang restaurant!!! Instead of pouring your energy into the wait at the famous spots, I really recommend giving this one a visit haha.
