What kind of izakaya is Robatayaki Sodam in Guro, Seoul?
Robatayaki Sodam Guro Digital Complex Branch is a Japanese-style izakaya on the 2nd floor of 97-3 Digital-ro 32-gil, Guro-gu, Seoul. It's open 17:00–01:30 and takes Naver Reservations. It's known as one of the best izakaya bars in Guro for its side dishes, so here's my visit review.
Robatayaki Sodam is a well-known Japanese restaurant that started with a Yeouido location and opened this second branch in Guro. It was famous enough that I'd wanted to go, and since I happened to have plans in Guro, I booked right away and went haha.
Bar counter, partitioned booths and a private room: what is the seating like?
Robatayaki Sodam has a bar table and a private room too, so it seems perfect for all kinds of gatherings!
First of all, I really liked that every seat is separated. Being able to talk privately with your party felt like a big advantage. There's also a bar table, where you can watch the fresh seafood right in front of you while you eat — a different kind of fun.
The place is really spacious and comfortable, so it seems great for group dinners or gatherings too. For group dinners there's actually a separate room.
The fish aging fridge and seafood display at Robatayaki Sodam
They said they age the fish, and I got to see the actual aging fridge right inside the store — it was fascinating. I think it's the first time I've seen fish being aged like this.
The fish used for grilling and the various seafood are all laid out so you can see them for yourself — it gave me a real sense of pride in their freshness!!

The Kirin draft beer at Robatayaki Sodam was only ₩7,000. Genuinely cheap. Perfect for the first drink — nice and cold, exactly what I wanted to start with.
This place is great for yuzu highballs. The yuzu flavor is really strong and you barely taste the alcohol, so I think it'd be good even for people who don't drink much.
And they even bring out a fried egg as a complimentary side dish — perfect with beer. You can drizzle the soy sauce provided at each table over it too.
Set no. 4 sashimi: is it cut thick?
The sashimi that came with set no. 4 let us try a wide variety — the usual salmon, flounder, and rockfish, plus mullet, octopus, and more.
Can you tell just by looking how fresh the sashimi is? I prefer thick-cut sashimi, and here the slices were stacked nice and thick, which I loved. With so many different kinds served, I could try all sorts of combinations, and I never got tired of eating it!
What comes on the assorted skewer platter, and how it tastes
Wow, I'd never seen an assorted skewer platter at Robatayaki Sodam served this generously before hahaha. Shrimp, grilled ginkgo nuts, chicken skin, chicken thigh, cheese rice cake wrapped in bacon, tomato wrapped in bacon, mushrooms — it really came with a huge variety.
First off, the sauce brushed on the skewers is just delicious on its own. Not too salty, not too sweet, and since they grill the skewers right there for you, you get to taste them hot and soft 👍🏻
The shrimp was tasty and so was the chicken, but it was actually the cheese rice cake wrapped in bacon that I'd never had before — and it turned out to be really good.
What to order on a second visit to Robatayaki Sodam
Every side dish was delicious, so next time I want to try the grilled fish too. The fish looked so fresh that I'm sure they'd grill it beautifully. There's also a wide range of drinks to try, and having separated seating let us talk independently without being right next to other tables. If you're looking for a great izakaya near Guro Digital Complex Station, I strongly recommend it!!!!
