My husband and I went back to Yeouido for the first time in a while — it's not far from home. Usually when we're in Yeouido we just grab a meal, hit a café, or have a quick drink. This time we wanted something a bit different, and Wine Joomak Chacha Yeouido Station Branch caught my eye.

With a name like that, I figured it was a dedicated wine spot, and what really got my attention was the corkage-free policy for wine in Yeouido. If you love wine, "corkage free" alone is pretty tempting, right? So I went to check it out with my husband.

Since Yeouido isn't far from our place either, it was also convenient to get to by public transit without bothering with a car.

A relaxed vibe for food and drinks

Walking in, the atmosphere was better than I'd expected.

Instead of the dim, intimidating wine-bar feel, it had a comfortable atmosphere for eating a meal while enjoying a drink — the kind of place someone who doesn't know much about wine could still walk into easily.

Since we'd made a reservation, we were shown to our reserved table. There are also private rooms, which would be great for company dinners or group gatherings.

An easy way for wine beginners to choose

The main reason we came was the corkage-free wine deal in Yeouido. Wine Joomak Chacha reportedly stocks around 100 varieties of wine.

Looking at the menu, though, it turned out to be a great fit for beer lovers like us too. I expected only wine-pairing snacks — usually you think of cheese or charcuterie at a wine spot — but the menu actually had a wide range of Korean dishes, from doenjang risotto to tteokbokki.

It wasn't just food meant for wine — there were dishes that go great with beer too, so as people who prefer beer over wine, it was easy to find something for us. What we ordered that day was cheese kimchijeon (cheese kimchi pancake). Kimchijeon really goes well with draft beer, so the moment I saw it on the menu I knew we had to try it.

The Stella draft beer arrived, and it was genuinely so good. Really cold, clean taste. It was so good we ended up ordering a few more glasses...

After a short wait, our cheese kimchijeon arrived.

It came with pickled radish and baek-kimchi (white kimchi) to go along with it.

What caught my eye first was the cheese on top of the kimchijeon — there was more of it than I expected, and it added a nice savory flavor alongside the pancake. Best of all, the pancake itself was fried up nice and crispy. The salty kick of kimchijeon combined with the cheese's savoriness paired really well with the draft beer.

What I realized on this visit is that despite the name Wine Joomak Chacha, it's not a place only for wine experts. They sell around 100 kinds of wine, but there's also a program for first-timers, and the menu isn't limited to wine pairings — you can choose based on your own taste, which I liked.

For anyone looking for corkage-free wine in Yeouido, being able to bring your own favorite bottle and enjoy it with food is really great too. And for people like us who prefer draft beer over wine, it was totally fine to just pick beer-friendly dishes and enjoy a relaxed meal-plus-drinks session!

What I liked most, though, was the location — about a 1-minute walk from Exit 3 of Yeouido Station, so it's easy to get to, and the atmosphere is comfortable enough for drinks with friends or a date with a partner. It also seems great for Yeouido office workers looking for a company dinner spot!!
