Sweet potato cheese tonkatsu near Seogwangju Station: Jinsimwang
In short
Jinsimwang Donkatsu Seogwangju Branch is a large-portion tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) restaurant in Geumho-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju, right by Seogwangju Station and next to Daiso, Uniqlo and ABC Mart. The sweet potato cheese tonkatsu oozed cheese the moment it was cut, and with cold jjolmyeon (chewy noodles in icy broth) plus extra spicy sauce and the self-serve bar of kimchi, lettuce wraps and soup, two people still couldn't finish it. A huge parking lot and a free self-packing station make Jinsimwang easy for a family outing or a solo meal alike.

Where is Jinsimwang Donkatsu Seogwangju Branch, and is there parking?

A great spot when you're craving tonkatsu in Geumho-dong: Jinsimwang Donkatsu Seogwangju Branch! It's easy to find near Seogwangju Station, and best of all it's right next to Daiso, ABC Mart and Uniqlo, so you can eat and shop in one trip. If you're looking for a place in Geumho-dong to grab a meal and browse the area afterward, the location is pretty solid. Plus there's a really huge parking lot!

Inside Jinsimwang Donkatsu: seating for solo diners and groups
Walking in, the restaurant is bigger than I expected, with a good variety of seating. There are solo tables for eating alone, 2-person tables, and tables for larger groups.

Kids' trays and tableware, plus high chairs, were all well stocked.

These small details matter a lot when you're eating out with kids, and this place had them covered.

What's on the self bar at Jinsimwang Donkatsu?
I liked the self bar too. Kimchi, pickled radish and lettuce wraps were neatly laid out, and you could take as much as you needed. (There's also the fun of wrapping the tonkatsu in lettuce leaves here.)

And the soup was self-serve too, so you could keep going back for more while waiting for the food. Sipping hot soup first gave it a bit of that old-school gyeongyangsik (Korean-style Western diner) feel, which I liked.

The free self-packing station for leftovers
What caught my eye was the self-packing station. Probably because the portions are so huge, a lot of customers take food home, and having a dedicated packing area meant you could pack up your own leftovers without feeling awkward. Scissors, tongs, sanitary gloves, even the boxes — all free to use. Once you taste the food, you immediately understand why they have a space like this. The portions are genuinely huge.

We ordered sweet potato cheese tonkatsu and cold jjolmyeon that day, and added spicy sauce on top.
How the sweet potato cheese tonkatsu and cold jjolmyeon tasted

First, the cold jjolmyeon came with chewy jjolmyeon noodles in a refreshing, ice-flecked cold broth.

It felt a little unfamiliar at first, but the moment I took a bite the noodles were genuinely chewy, and the tangy-spicy flavor totally grabbed my appetite...!!! Tonkatsu can get a bit greasy after a while, but one bite of the cold jjolmyeon cuts right through it. It paired so well with the tonkatsu. Highly recommend even outside summer!

The sweet potato cheese tonkatsu lived up to its name. There was a generous amount of sweet potato mousse inside, and the cheese was so lavishly packed in that it was already flowing out the moment it was cut.

But it wasn't just about the filling — the pork itself was thick, giving it a proper, satisfying chew. The sweetness of the sweet potato mousse, the savory cheese, and the crispy breading all came together, and I kept reaching for more.

It might seem like it could be too rich, but adding the spicy sauce made the combination even better.

Seriously so good,,,,

It went well wrapped in lettuce leaves too, and eating it with the rice that comes standard felt filling and satisfying. There wasn't just one way to eat it — there was fun in mixing it up with different sides. The two of us ate together and ended up really, really full. It's tasty enough that you keep eating, but the portions are so large that eventually we thought, 'Ah, this is why they have the packing station' haha.
Is Jinsimwang Donkatsu worth a return trip?

The location is good, parking is easy, the self bar was clean, and it was impressive that they made it so convenient to pack up leftovers. With shopping all clustered right next door, you can eat, then stop by Daiso, Uniqlo, and ABC Mart in one easy loop — the route is really convenient. If you're looking for a place to eat tonkatsu in Geumho-dong, I genuinely recommend this one!!!
