A Bansong-dong Korean restaurant for a weekend family lunch
Deciding what to eat for a weekend family lunch is always a bit of a struggle, isn't it? I'd been craving Korean comfort food like kimchi jjigae (kimchi stew) or kimchi jjim (braised kimchi) recently, so I went to Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal in Dongtan. Looking at the menu, they had everything from kimchi jjigae to kimchi jjim, duruchigi (stir-fried pork), and samgyeopsal (pork belly), so it seemed like a solid spot for the whole family!

There was parking for about 4 cars in front of the building. We came during lunchtime and luckily still found a spot.
The interior overall felt clean and cozy.
Brick-style partitions divided the tables here and there, which made it feel less cramped next to neighboring tables and made it comfortable for the family to chat and eat together.

Maybe because it was a weekend lunch, there were quite a few people dining in, and delivery orders kept coming in too. I felt like having a place like this in the neighborhood means you'd end up stopping by casually whenever the craving hits~!
Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal says it uses domestic kimchi and domestic fresh meat for every menu item. They also say ingredients delivered that day are used up that day, and only fresh vegetables are used, which made me trust the food even more~ The menu has familiar dishes like kimchi jjigae, duruchigi, kimchi jjim, and samgyeopsal, plus set menus.

What comes in the 28,000-won kimchi jjim set for two
What we ordered was the samgyeop kimchi jjim set! It comes with samgyeop kimchi jjim, egg roll, and rice, and it's ₩28,000 for two people.
The basic side dishes came out first, and there was also a self bar at the restaurant, so we could easily grab more of any side dish we ran low on.

The egg roll we kept reaching for before the rice arrived
Refilling side dishes at the self bar
Before the main dish, the egg roll (gyeranmari) came out — and honestly, it was way better than I expected. It was a thick, steaming egg roll, and when I tried a piece while it was still warm, it was so soft and tasty that I couldn't stop reaching for it. We ended up eating more than half of it before the rice even arrived.😀

Soft braised kimchi and thick pork belly: why we ate two bowls of rice
And then the kimchi jjim we'd been waiting for arrived! It looked delicious just from the bubbling and simmering, didn't it? It came already partly cooked, so we just needed to simmer the tofu a bit more.
Sprinkle some gim (seaweed flakes) on the rice, pile on a generous scoop of kimchi jjim, and mix it all together — it's seriously good. There's a slight spicy kick to it, but not an overwhelming spicy — more like the kind of tasty spicy you keep wanting to eat! The kimchi was well-fermented and soft, and paired with the thick pork belly, one bowl of rice wasn't enough~ The portion was more generous than expected too, so in the end our family each ate two bowls of rice.🍚 We left stuffed full from a proper weekend lunch.

Yangpuni Kimchi Jjigae & Samgyeopsal was our pick for a weekend family lunch. The kimchi jjim and egg roll were genuinely delicious, and the portions were generous enough that we each ate two bowls of rice for the first time in a while~ With a varied menu ranging from kimchi jjigae to kimchi jjim, duruchigi, and samgyeopsal, I'd love to try other dishes next time. This is a place I'd want to come back to with the family whenever we're craving hearty, home-style Korean food in Dongtan~❤️
